My year old, 2 pound, (tiny) Netherland dwarf stopped going to the bathroom in his cage. He would hold it and then during play time he would use his outdoor/free run litter pan.

Eventually when he couldn’t hold it anymore he would go to the bathroom in his bed in his cage.

My bun likes eating, sleeping, and going to the bathroom in his box, and he is apparently a very clean bunny. He didn’t like using his  ox because of how small it was, he had room to lay down and turn around, but he still had to lay on top of his mess. Hi playtime box on the other hand was twice the size of his cage box.

I bought a bigger box for his cage (at least 6 of him could fit in it)  and ta-da, he has started using his litter box again!

        Hope this helps some people!

Thanks for posting this. Yes, it is very good info. to read. My Sammy uses her litter pan very well, but when I got her the latest really big one (I call it The Boat because all we see is her head sticking up like she’s sailing) she stopped sticking to just one corner of the pan and chooses different spots, facing different directions. It looks like fun for her. And it lasts so much longer with less waste, because she has more clean areas to go in.
