Hi everyone, I have a lovely 1 year old minilop called Ringo, about 36 hours ago I noticed under his nose was swollen, like this photo IMG_1665_zps709fe256.jpg

I originally thought he might have had a little fight with his friend but now it looks like this photo IMG_1687_zpsd4d53f41.jpg

He’s booked in at the vets at 4.50 tomorrow, the next available appointment (about 21 hours from now) but does anyone have any ideas what this might be? He’s eating and pooping normally and not overly grooming or anything, no changes in behaviour at all. My poor bun

It could be a number of things, unfortunately. I don’t think he is in immediate danger though, so an appointment for him tomorrow is fine.

Could be bite or injury from something sharp. That can abscess quickly so it’s a good thing you’re getting him checked out.

Does he get a bit of a wet nose? Nostril of the affected side looks slightly wet.

Thanks for your responses the vet wasn’t sure what it is, considered it may be Rabbit Syphilis but wasn’t convinced due to the appearance, so she’s given Ringo a 10 day course of oral antibiotics (pennicilin) and if this doesn’t help will try treating it as Syphilis, apparently the antibiotic for that is more toxic so she didn’t want to rush into this. it may be that he’s been scratched by Pickle his companion and it’s become infected, will keep you posted in case anyone else has this problem xx

I hope she is not giving oral penicillin – this is deadly for rabbits – are you SURE that is what he is getting? Rabbits can do penicillin injection BUT NOT oral penicillin…

Ringo is now on day 5 of the course of antibiotics, the growth scabbed up and started to come away from his nose, and fell off earlier today. I’m going to finish the 10 day course, but glad his nose looks healthy again now
