  HI I have a prolem I am getting ready to move to a new house partially in the woods with lots of rabbit predators around and my parents are making me keep my rabbit Foxy Tail outside in a hutch and she is never allowed to come inside. i live in Indiana and temperatures can get to over 100 in the summer and below 0 in the winter. I really want to have her live in a large 3 level c&c cage and have free range when I can watch her. She loves to be outside so I would let her go outside under my supervision of course. Every time I bring up my rabbit my parents say that rabbita are messy, smelly, and belong outside. Right know my rabbit is messy because she lives with my step dad over 2 hours away ( my parents have a long distance relationship but we are moving in together in 2 weeks) He keeps her in his garage and lets her outside in an enclosed area when he is home. He has been waiting to give her over to me because he only has has his kids every other weekend. On top of that neither of them pay any attention to it.
  
  Please don’t say that I shouldn’t have a rabbit because I hardly ever see and haven’t had any time to litter train her or get her spayed (she though as soon as I move) My step dad saved her from being put in the shelter. I have wanted this rabbit for forever and whenever i visit him I spend most of my time with Foxy.
  
  Can people please give me ideas on how to change their minds I’ll keep you posted on how they work. Thanks for your help!

  If they have never lived with the bunny, they don’t know if she is may or smelly. It sounds as if they are operating on preconceived misconceptions, rather than facts. I would recommend that you ask for a trial period of having her indoors once she is spayed.

  My mom lived with rabbits once as my aunt breed them and sold them to pet stores the only problem was that she never cleaned the cages out. My step dad had her inside at one point in a room where she was free run and she pooped on the carpet once because she wasn’t litter trained.

  Any animal is going to be dirty and smelly if not cared for properly and cleaned up after. As I said, try to negotiate for a trial period.

  Well he good news is is that I’ve sorta convinced my stepdad into being inside but he is the easier one to convince he said that he could discuss it with my mom. My mom though is going to be harder to convince because of her issues with rabbits and animals in general I’ll keep you posted on the results

  Scratch what I said he said that rabbits are meant to live outside and that the rabbit is never coming inside but that she might be able to visit and every tie I try to convince him he laughs at me and doesn’t pay any attention in fact he makes a joke out of it.

  domesticated rabbits are NOT meant to live outside…. they have no way of regulating their body temperature so if it’s getting to 100 F then she will very likely get heat stroke which is often fatal… perhaps you should use a vet to convince them or another type of animal specialist…. Rabbits are really not messy and their poop is easy to manage… perhaps if you asked if she could just stay in your room and you would always clean up after her? Then you could have them get to know her and eventually they might even come around to letting her live around the house…
