         Hi all-

I’ve been a frequent viewer of this forum for years, but have rarely posted, but my mini-lop bunny friend Newman is going through a bout of GI stasis it seems.  Just took him to the vet (who was great, thankfully) and tonight I have been feeding him painkillers and a critical care mixture -(he LOVES that… : JK).  Anyway, super worried about him because he hasn’t really eaten or pooped in over 24 hours at this point.  He’s still his rambunctious self though and gave the vet tech a hard time holding him to be examined!

Hopefully the drugs will do their thing and he’ll start eating again.  We’ve had him for over 4 years now and never had any health concerns.  Usually he is a total glutton.  I’ve been a stressed out wreck about it all, being so attached to him.  He did nibble a bit of fresh basil before going to the vet, so hopefully that’s a good sign.  Anyway, thank you for all of the excellent information on this website- it has been instrumental in helping me make the right decision to bring him to the vet today.

If I remember my internet wanderings correctly, I think it can take up to 2 days for them to start eliminating again, and up to a week for their bathroom visits to go completely back to normal. Definitely keep an eye on him, make sure he’s drinking, and eating at least a little, and keep your vet updated!

Newman might also know that you’re stressing/fussing over him, and that might make him nervous. I know it’s *much* easier said than done, but try not to stress around him too much. (I’m extremely guilty of fussing over Merida anytime she shows even a shadow of a potential symptom- my boyfriend always calls me out on it, and tells me to leave her alone!)

          ((((healing vibes for Newman))))

            {{{Vibes}}} for Newman !
It certainly is a worrisome thing to go through. Keep us up to date in how he’s doing. Hoping you’ll see things improving soon.

Vibes for Newman – did the vet check his teeth?

Thanks everybody.  Yes, the vet did check his teeth and found 1 sharp spot that he got rid of.  Today Newman does seem better and he ate a bit of hay and some greens this morning and did poop a little last night- looks like he’s on the road to recovery.  He’s flopped out at my feet as I type this.
