I am possibly looking into getting a bunny(or two) but full of questions. Hopefully you guys can help me
We had a Mini Lop named Linus a few years back who suddenly passed away at the age of two, the vet believes it was heart failure. We were stunned and heartbroken. I have been thinking about adding another bunny member to our family. Here are my questions and I am open to any and all opinions. One Bunny or two? I prefer to have one, but fear he maybe lonely when I’m at work.
Male or Female(will be altered either way)? Linus was an awesome neutered male(done at 4 months old)I had a female(unaltered) as a child who was “evil” I don’t know if she just wasn’t socialized before we got her or if the gender makes a difference.
Breed? I like the loppy eared bunnies but open to any breed, does it make a difference?
Age? Although I prefer to rescue, I have dogs and cats(who were cuddle buddies with Linus and very gentle) and fear I may have a hard time introducing an adult with my current pets. I prefer to socialize and bond with a baby but open to adults. Opinion?
Type and sized of enclosure? I plan to litterbox train and let him have free supervised range of part of the house when we are home but what size and type of enclosure is best when I am at work? Linus was in a Great Dane(the largest we could find) sized wire dog crate, is that enough?Hmmm… I may be forgetting something but feel free to add anything that maybe useful to me becoming a bunny owner again. Thanks in advance

One bunny can live happily with human companions, bunny companions are not necessary. Bunny’s sleep during the day so I wouldn’t worry about him being lonely while you’re at work.
Male or Female doesn’t matter so much, especially if they are altered. I would look into adopting an older bun (1 year + ) from a rescue because they come speutered, they’re usually calmer, and you can get a real sense of their personality. You can usually foster before you adopt as well so you can make sure the bunny fits in with your lifestyle before you commit to being a forever home. I wouldn’t worry about age being a factor with introducing to your dogs/cats. Three of my rabbits were 1-2 years when I adopted them and none of them seem bothered by either. They shouldn’t be left alone together (without supervision) so it’s not as big of a concern (unless they’re terrified of course).
For a single small – med sized rabbit you want their housing to be a minimum of 4′ X 2′ (per rabbit). A larger bunny (the giant breeds) need A LOT more space.
