Part of it may just be aging. Being calmer, more relaxed and having less desire to play are pretty normal for all animals including us humans. I’ve experienced it myself as I’ve become the mom who sits and relaxes on the bench at the park while my young child runs around like a wild-thing. I’ve seen many cats go from zooming kitten to laid back cat. Though all my bunnies have come to me as already mellowed out adults, I see no reason to think it would be any different with them.

Whenever something gets shipped to us, we try to do something new and interesting with the box. Currently there is a huge box on Porky’s porch area. It is filled up with a long piece of scrunched up paper and has bunny sized holes cut in two corners. It isn’t a normal part of Porky’s habitat and will not be staying long term since it takes up half his porch. Novelty helps get him out of his normal routine.

I second the boxes. I have a couple of tunnel like boxes and I just need to move them a tiny bit to get my rabbit up and investigating. I put them out in different configurations a few times a week.

How old are your buns?

I often think that my buns are bored because they hardly do anything when I let them out for playtime. Sometimes they explore but mostly they just hang out.

The things my bunnies enjoy are the Cottontail Cottage, big tunnel (it’s made for kids). Although, it seems they enjoy eating hay more than anything else.

Olivia likes to toss her stacking cups. And like the others mentioned, you can’t go wrong with boxes that have holes cut in them.

Ashe has been going through a phase of just laying around. I put a neon pink solo cup on the ground today to see what she would do and she started to binky circles around it lol. It may be that they are aging or you might just try putting random wierd “toys” in their play area lol. Ashe is confined to one room and a hallway so I worry about her getting bored also. I’m always in the room she is in though, my computer is in here She also loves to lay flopped next to me and watch me play animal crossing (just got it two days ago so it’s new to her) … strange bunny. She does head binkies when this wierd noise goes off when I talk to a pig character. Funniest thing ever!!!

Just a word of warning, I got stacking cups for Dobby and he played with them for a couple of days and then started to eat them.

I have had a bunch of different boxes of varying sizes and he likes to investigate all of them. I’ve cut holes in some of them so he can explore the inside and sometimes I just put them on their sides and put some hay in them. But the favorites are definitely the ones that are long and narrow like tunnels. I make sure not to recycle those. He really likes it when I connect them and make a maze. I think it also helps that they aren’t there all the time and are rarely in the same place, so when they come out, it’s like a treat.

I haven’t been able to get the cotton tail cottage and other items either.
I am constantly on the prowel as soon as I find them will let you know.
Bunny Girl and I have found a source of reasonably priced NIC cubes in Queensland and they have a capped national delivery rate so they don’t bite you on the freight charges.
My buns favourite toys are stacky cups, Nermals crinkly road kill skunk. The fluffy heart shaped pillows from K Mart as they can dig at and toss them about. A good phone book and of course anything I don’t want them to touch brings endless amusement when they get hold of it.

Rather ironic that I seem to get most of my bunny specialty products from Queensland. I also get the Puppy and Kitten Revolution from there at a great rate.

And Queensland aren’t even allowed to legally keep bunnies as pets are they?! :S

I rotate toys and sometimes just give them a bigger space with no toys and they’ll binky and zoom in the empty space. Other days I’ll make a maze, then a mansion of bunny boxes, put in throwing toys then another day, chew toys.

I follow this lady’s blog as she puts up reviews of toys and it gives me New ideas for the bunnies.
I think bunnies do generally calm down as they get older though
