I am extremely angry/upset today. When I was at my riding lesson today, I went outside to the trail barn to grab the horses bridle. Someone was riding a hose down a ways past a shed and as she passed it I saw something white run into the shed. I knew at once it was a rabbit. I ran over to the shed and peaked in. Sure enough, there was a white rabbit with black spots hiding under some equipment. as I got closer s/he ran off and I could see him/her. I left to go finish tacking up my horse and to ask if they knew there was a loose rabbit running around. I was so nervous for the poor thing I started shaking and that was all I could think about. When my riding instructor came I asked her if she knew there was a rabbit loose. She answered with a very snippy “yes” and she said it was her rabbit.  At that point my worrying turned to anger and I couldn’t believe how careless people are! This might be the last straw for me. I have been thinking of finding a new place to ride for a number of reasons and I don’t think I can be around her abuse to her rabbits.

Sorry for the rant but I could not keep this to myself!!!

I totally hate this as well!!! I get sooo angry when I see people treat their pets as meaningless toys!!! But instead of arguing with them (because it seems that people get REALLY offended when you say that they aren’t taking care of their pets properly) I try to educate them better.

How awful!! Is it a bunny she “set free” because she doesn’t want it anymore or does she actually expect it to not disappear?

I’ve had my share of difficult situations regarding bunnies at horse stables, including bunnies being “set free to live on the farm”. Very upsetting.

Yes, usually one place that is very (how do you put it?) pampering of one species of animals, but not very kind to most others.

LPT: I honestly don’t know. I didn’t ask. She was really snippy and I didn’t question her further. I am going to be looking for a new place to ride in the area. Not only just for that reason either.

Is there any rescue organization you could possibly talk to about this? Some areas have better laws then others about how you can keep animals and wherever you live might consider this neglect. It is worth a try…

                      Thanks, Mocha.

BTW,  I am sorry about your valid distress about that woman’s little rabbit. You can’t change her point of view, but it may bother her to lose a customer because of her neglect of an animal.

Thanks guys. I looked for like an hour last night on riding places and found 1 place about 40min. Away. Their website looks nice but I have no idea how good they are. I might take a week off and try them out. I don’t only want to leave because of the rabbit but also the way she has treated me when I have asked her questions and she acts like I’m a bother and should know how to do it. I also hate how professional she is and acts like she hates all her horses and wishes she could sell them all. Drives me crazy! The only thing I like about this place are the animals. <3

Doesn’t seem like a very positive environment. I’d look for a new place too. Best of luck!
