Hello there! My girlfriend and I have 2 black French Lop bunnies, Audrey and Pigeon, approx. 4 months old. We bought them from a local pet store when (we were told) they were about 12 weeks old. At the time, we were told they were female, and in fact that all the bunnies they had in were female, but since then we’ve had some doubts about Audrey.
Pigeon has always been the larger of the two bunnies, so we don’t think she’s neccessarily pregnant, but Audrey’s at the age to be going through puberty and has been humping aaaall over the place, including Pigeon, whereas Pigeon’s showed no behaviour like that at all. We’ve tried to sex them by diagrams online, but have found it almost impossible – sometimes they look male, sometimes female, so we’re at a bit of a loss.
They’re getting on just fine and we’ve had no other problems or worries with them at all, and the few times Audrey’s humped Pigeon, Pigeon’s jumped off and then Audrey’s left her alone. Is there anyway that from this anyone could help us sex them? Could we perhaps take them to a local vet specialising in rabbits who could tell us, and does anyone know if they would charge us for this? We used to have rats that we bought from the same store, and they wrongly sexed them when we bought them, although when we bought the “girls” the woman sexing them seemed pretty sure they were ladies.
Just a bit worried we could have lots of baby bunnies that we’re not sure how to look after (and we’re moving house shortly) or other problems; besides being super angry at the pet shop – grr!
