Okay firstly, I know I will have to go to the doctor for this but I just wanted some insight on it.

I have no idea what I did but my lower right back has been hurting and today it’s the worst it’s ever been.  I can barely move, sit, walk, stretch,…anything…it’s terrible.  It’s like a pinching pain and it hurts so bad.  It’s in my leg too….Apparently it’s spreading to my left toes cause they are going numb.  I have never in my life had pain like this before.

I did get into a car accident in early December 2012.  I did have neck and back pain but never went to the doctor.  I feel like I am paying for it now.  I should have gone.

Anyone know what could be wrong? How soon should i get to the doctor?  I don’t have medical insurance so I know this is going to cost a buttload.  =(

I feel so miserable today.  I am just happy I get two of my bunnies back today.

That sounds like it’s quite possibly nerve damage to me, as you have several nerves which run right down your back and into your leg. You may have a trapped nerve caused by the shifting of things from your accident, but many people get trapped nerves just randomly Sorry i’m not sure about how much ish it’ll cost as i’m from the UK so we do this whole NHS lark … there is a nerve called the Sciatic nerve which a lot of people have trouble with and have similar symptoms to you Have some warm baths, try not to over do it but get yourself to the doctors if it’s causing you real trouble They may just get some exercises for you to do x

I think you should go to an emergency room asap. Call your nearest hospital and ask if they see patients who have no insurance. I am pretty sure it’s a national policy that an emergency room has to see a percentage of patients who cannot pay and they provide for that. You can ask, and call a few hospitals and go to one that says they can help you. Sometimes it’s one hospital per community that does this, but not all of them. (I live near 4 hospitals within a 12 mile radius, so I would call before going.)
            Then go.
It could definitely be caused by the accident, and it needs to be seen right away before you have any more damage. Sciatica is one possibility. Back pain is very serious and can last a long time.
If it was due to the accident, you should also call your auto insurance in the next week and ask about your policy. Most have limited coverage for any injury, so if it was reported, or if it wasn’t and you are reporting it now, find out what your policy covers. It’s very possible that they will cover some of it, if not all. You may be able to see a regular doctor, but don’t wait any longer since I don’t know if you have to report the injury within a certain amount of time after the accident. It may also be covered by someone else’s insurance if they caused it and you didn’t. In other words, car insurance has medical coverage built in usually.
            Hope that helps.

I agree with Anna, sounds like it could be your Sciatic nerve. This was quite some time ago, but I did something to tweek that nerve. The doctor thought maybe my hip had popped in and out, causing inflammation there. OMG it freaking hurt so bad! The pain ran down my leg and up my back on that side. Just walking caused excruciating pain. Lucky for me, it healed pretty quickly. The doctor couldn’t believe how quickly it got better. They said the way to tell if it is that nerve was to lean backward. It would cause pain in your hip. Although it doesn’t sound like you want to do that. LOL

I was a medic for 10 years in the army and was discharged due to an IED. I suffer from Sciatica, and that is exactly like how it feels. almost like a shock running up and down your leg. It sounds like you may have a pinched sciatic nerve probably around your L5 area. I hope that you didn’t herniate the disk cause that is degenerative and can be painful. I will keep you in my prayers.

I don’t have any medical experience but I am going to vote for the Sciatic nerve as well, my mom had that same exact thing and got back surgery because of it she is much better now. I would def go to a doctor immediately and see what they can do.

Well, it turns out I have to call the lady who was working my moms case for her injury from the accident. Once I have done that I will be able to go to the doctor. I really hope my back will be okay! I am only 22, I don’t need a back problem already. =O

Oh goodluck! I hope you can get treatment covered.

I agree it sounds like sciatica. ((((Healing vibes))))

It sounds like a herniated och near-herniated disc putting pressure on a nerve-root.
If it is a disc, you’ll first feel the pain mostly in your back for some time, then the back will get better and the pain wander down your leg instead. If it reaches below your knee you should seek medical attention.
There is also the possibility that the sciatic nerve is just pinched where it exits through the pelvis, where it can get “stuck” with a muscle called the piriformis. That wouldn’t be as bad as a herniated disc but physiotherapy would still be highly recommended.

The good thing about hernated or near-herniated discs is that they in most cases heal without any invasive treatment. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try to control the pain when it’s at its worst.

Here’s a video of a classic Mackenzie-excersise that’s really good if it’s a disc that’s the problem. By doing this excercise often, (about 10 repetitions every waking hour the first 3 days, then less often) you can actually get the disc to go back to it’s normal position. If you have any relief when you try this (if you try this), it is very good, it means you’ll probably be able to fully recover.

In really really bad cases surgery is needed, but if you’re reasonably young and otherwise healthy (no diabetes etct) the prognosis is generally considered very good. Even if the pain is dreadful.

                        Lots of healing-vibes!

Don’t do much, if you can avoid it. During the first few days of sth like this, you should try to move around a little but also rest.Try to find a position where it doesn’t hurt so much f ex lying on your back with your knees and hips in 90 degree angles, resting your legs on sth rather big and square-ish or just a big pile of pillows or rolled-up duvets, whatever you have around. If you have ibuprofen or paracetamol, and are not allergic to it or sth, take it.

If you can’t pee at all you need to seek medical care immediately, but that is the one instance that makes sth like this a life-threatening emergency. If you’d had your insurance in order I’d of course tell you to seek care for the pain if nothing else, but since you don’t, I think it’s safe to try and hang in there until you can get hold of the insurance-lady.

                            Don’t despair!

Thank you! I think it might be slowly getting better. It hurts when I sit or bend over but not nearly as bad as it did on Sunday. My toes go numb off and on now. It’s not constant anymore. (numbing is still not good, I know) I am hoping the insurance lady calls me back today but I have a good feelings she will not. She jerked my mom around a lot and then my mom had to eventually get a lawyer to help with her case and get medical coverage. My mom and I were in the accident together and my mom has herniated disks and is in a lot of pain too. Hers had been like that almost right after the accident. My back and neck hurt after the accident but I thought it would just get better and I wouldn’t have to go to the doctor. Now that this is going on I totally regret not seeking medical attention sooner because now I am not even sure the insurance will cover this since it’s been a long time.

I just hope it gets better on its own. I still would like to see a doctor just in case. (I hate going to the doctor but I feel I need to now)
