Get him neutered and it will help calm him down about a month after the surgery.
I can’t pick up my bunny but what I did to check the incision was hold a treat over their head and they will stand up. Same thing with Harley (the boy)

Just hold the treat above their head to make sure they stand up. It IS WORTH THE RISK! Trust me. It’s already hurting your relationship with your bunny because of him doing what you knew was going to happen if you didn’t get him fixed.

I think just about all rabbits dislike being picked up and many rabbits don’t like being rolled on their back.. From what I’ve been told, rabbits are prey animals and are herbivores so there is nothing predatory about them. Because of this, rabbits are always on their guard and will struggle when being picked up because their instincts tell them that a predator is trying to get them.. He is just getting to that age where his hormones are starting to kick in so if he’s not neutered he’ll be humping things a lot… My rabbit is not neutered at the moment but he’s been an adult for a while now and only humps things occasionally (and it’s not like he didn’t have an active sex life since he was used primarily as a breeding rabbit before I got him) but yeah aggressive or rebellious behaviour can basically be summed up to the fact that he is getting to that age, and he isn’t neutered… So you’ll have to either be really patient with your bunny or find somewhere to get him fixed. My rabbit will not let me roll him on his back, but if I wrap him in a towel, it puts him in a similar trance, if you can somehow manage that, it might work. Also watch out for him peeing/pooing around the house!

Sounds hormonal. He’s also a teenager. There should be someone near you that can perform the neuter. Sometimes rabbit vets are listed as exotic vets. My vet specializes in exotics. She sees all kinds of little critters, including rabbits. When we had chinchillas, that is where we took them as well.

Definitely go with a neuter. Your local humane society is a great place to ask. Also, check out Petfinder with your zip code and rabbits in a search to find other rescues in your area to ask for a good vet referral.

Holding the treat up so he stands is my suggestion also, but to add to that, place a flat mirror, like a hand mirror, on the floor near his feet when you do it so you can look into the mirror as he stands and get a really good view of him underneath. It’s all you need to see any redness or swelling. Be sure to ask whoever does it to give you a little metacam to take home when it’s done for the first 24 hours in case he is in discomfort. And all vets can be called if you have any concerns about him in the next few days. I hope you can get it done. He is old enough to be scheduled immediately.

BTW, don’t rule out an exotics vet that’s good, but an hour or 2’s drive from your home. It’s a one time visit if you can let him stay overnight (and they should) and you can just have a local vet on standby by phone if he has any post-procedure problems rather than going to the original vet again. It’s not often you need to worry, especially with a male.
I’m in FL too. I also would check for veterinary schools in your area. Tallahassee is a pretty major location, so there may be one that would be willing to do it in exchange for letting a class observe.
