I’ve been working on litter training Olliver. He isn’t neutered and I’m not sure of his age – will be going to the vet either this week or next to ask about both – but he doesn’t really mark or spray. He has a litter box in his cage and one outside of it.
He’s doing well with the training considering he wasn’t litter trained before, he’s an intact adult, and I’ve had him less than a week – but a lot of the time he goes right next to the box instead of inside it. He consistently pees inside the box, but maybe half the time he poos outside it. There’s hay in it, but he’ll sit outside the box nibbling it and go. I praise him when he goes in the box.
He seems to not want to go in the box once he’s already peed in it, so I try to clean it up right away, but when I’m not home there’s not much I can do. The box is more than big enough for him to go in several spots.
I don’t really know what I can do about this. Any ideas? Should I just wait it out and he’ll get better with it?
