  Today I noticed a couple gnats (or baby flies?) flying around my bun’s room. I only read about fly strike yesterday and now I’m terrified of it. I guess it’s the poo/pee that’s attracting them. I spot clean the litterbox several times a day because the little prince won’t use it if it already has pee in it and fully clean it every other day. I use Carefresh in the litter box, and his cage is lined with towels.
  
  I’ve always had a problem with bugs in this room, never could figure out where they come from, but during the summer I get all kinds. Now I’m worried about fly strike. Does anyone have any ideas on what to do?

  One suggestion would be to have an external exterminator. If someone does outside the house/room, then bugs get killed before they can even enter your home. Also, they carry the stuff to the nests and it drops off that way. We have an exterminator do the house inside once a month, but not anywhere near the bunny’s habitat or adjacent walls and it’s enough.
  
  I don’t know about fly strike. I wouldn’t worry unless it happens.

  Well… I’m a bit of an environmentalist, and a vegan I really do hate killing bugs except when they become a nusiance, and I’ll definitely call an exterminator if that happens. But I went to rinse out his food bowl last night and there were a few drowned bugs in the water left over from his veggies, and looking closer I think they were fruit flies. I set up a little homemade trap and might put some fly paper around the windows, see if that helps keep them away, but fruit flies don’t cause fly strike, right? I always work myself up over things and then they turn out to be nothing lol Thanks for your reply Pam!

  I have a lot of houseplants and get little flies sometimes. I leave out my cup of coffee when I’m finished with it (with maybe 1/4 left in the bottom) and the flies drown in it throughout the day. I use flavored creamer, so I think they’re attracted to that. Other than that, maybe fly paper?
