Hello!
One of my poor bunnies, Bergstrom, was diagnosed with a cruciate tear in his right hind leg today (similar to a human tearing his ACL in his knee). He only began appearing slightly off in his right hind yesterday and we had him at the vet early this morning. I have several questions about this injury and would much appreciate some answers and advice. My vet is very knowledgeable but this is the first rabbit cruciate tear he has seen.
The vet’s advice was to put him on Metacam for about a week and “see how he does.” His Metacam dose is 1.8cc’s once a day.
Has anyone seen this type of injury before and what did you do for your rabbit?
Does he need to be on “cage rest” for a few days? (The vet didn’t think this was necessary.)
The vet said this injury will eventually lead to arthritis, how can I lessen the severity or onset of this arthritis?
Has anyone heard of surgery being performed to repair the ligament?
Bergstrom is only 7 months old (1 of my 3 rescued rabbits from a fur farm) and I am heartbroken he has such an injury! Please, any feedback would be appreciated!
