This is going to be a rough day tomorrow.

We have to take our semi-feral cat, “Hello Kitty” to get her vaccinations (rabies/FeLV/FIV) and this is a cat who DOES NOT like car travel one iota. She will be angry, combative and screaming the whole way there and back, hence why we do not take her there unless we absolutely have to.

As of sometimes this last week, she was apparently mauled by one of the other cats in the neighborhood or perhaps some new dogs in the area…we can’t tell which. She was grabbed around the midsection with claws or teeth and there are a few good sized wounds that have scabbed over. We can’t tell precisely when she got them or if they are infected at all because she won’t allow inspection.

So we have to hope she will be okay. And us too, because she will be a handful. I am hoping no one gets bitten or scratched and that she doesn’t do a runner on us either. My worst fear is she will escape the carrier and something awful will happen.

At the same time, I have to bring Mimzy with us because his eye appointment is the same day. I should’ve made a different appointment for Kitty, but it really wasn’t possible. Too many other things in the way and we don’t want to let her go too long without medical attention to even scabbed wounds. This is the only time the ophthamologist will be there and Mimzy’s had runny eyes/cataracts for a long time now. We need to address them.

I don’t know how she managed to hide these from us. Usually she acts odd if she’s been in a fight. There was no change in behaviour at all. We’d have missed them but for trying to pick her up the other evening and suddenly finding the scabs.

On top of it all, have to leave Jenna at home and she will be highly agitated without me. I can only hope she’ll be okay with my daughter while I’m gone. She becomes frantic and starts having reverse sneezing and other problems and this freaks my daughter out.

OH will be driving but he has to run in the 60 mile round trip in for another appointment with the DMV early morning, then will come back out and get me and the pets at about 1 PM and drive the 60 miles all over again.

Can we please have good vibes for what is going to be a nightmare?

        Thankies.

Sorry guys, meant to update but the last two days have been crazy busy.
Kitty and Mimzy did fine. The trip in was made by me and my son (since my OH was unavailable, his appointment ran late) so I drove and son soothed and found that Kitty does much better traveling if she can’t see out of her carrier. We are wondering if she too may have vestibular trouble as she will roll in the carrier while watching the world zoom by outside.
We put a blanket over her and after a while the yowling stopped and she was calmer. She was able to get all her immunizations and was apparently so zonked from her ordeal she didn’t make a peep the whole way home. The vet was unconcerned by her scabs, they were already dried out and flaking, but she gave her a shot of ampicillin so if there’s any residual infection it will be kept in check.
Mimzy passed his eye exam; nuclear sclerosis but not bad enough for surgery. He has some diminished blink reflex on the down eye so the vet thinks that is nerve damage. He needs fake tears to keep his eyes moist enough so the crusties won’t form. Otherwise he is doing very well.
For a bun who’s had head tilt and multiple health problems in his 6-7 years of life, he is pretty tough.
Many thankies for all the vibes. Jenna survived her afternoon of being puppy sat by my daughter and wouldn’t let me out of her sight the rest of the evening. Have you ever seen that insurance commercial with the Pom in the blue jacket hanging off the arm of the guy quoting rates? That’s about the size of it. lol…..

OH and I had to journey in today to grocery shop…too hot outside the last few days to leave two animals in carriers in the car so we shined it yesterday. Jenna came with us today and sat in “daddy’s” lap and when she had to sit with me for awhile she had a yappy conversation with a long haired Chihuahua in the next car over. She can get feisty with smaller dogs, but usually she just sits quietly if a big one goes by. She used to be much more talkative when we first got her and would bark and growl at anything within range.
So spending the rest of my day nursing my aching back. Too much bending and lifting of late. >_<
