I’ve been waiting more than four years to post this!! I’m so excited to share
And relieved we’re done!
Four years ago, we bought our first house, with the hopes of renovating just like they do on TV. I thought I’d be posting the before and after within a year.
So that’s a good lead in to the first lesson we learned about renovations.
1. Renovations take 17,657 x longer than you think they will…![]()
And they are brutal. And did I mention they take WAYYYY longer than you think they will? Yes…ok well that cannot be stated enough! Other rules are, do renovations together before you marry someone…If you can survive renovations without killing each other, you’ll likely survive all other tribulations in life
And the big box home supply store lies: You can’t do it, and they can’t help
So without further ado (since the after pics are uploading) here are the ‘befores’![]()
I know the windows look yuck, a window company comes tomorrow to clean them. The siding is also done but we have no before of the ugly yellow sheet metal siding; it’s a blue vinyl siding with white trim now-looks great
we put in surround sound and remote controlled lights too. I have to brag for Dave-he made the kitchen cupboards himself from scratch!
Oh wow! It looks really great
Haha, I was actually thinking about the kitchen cupboards as I was looking through the pics and was going to ask about them. They look awesome!
That is a lot of work! I LOVE home improvement and renovations!! Congrats…it looks fantastic!!
Congrats!!!! It looks awesome!!!
I know how long that kind of stuff can take. We’ve lived in our house about 8 years and some of the house is still my sister’s decorating (she was the previous owner). Hoping to get my kitchen redone this month. With a sheep theme! ![]()
Wow Awesome job!!!
Yay! I love before & afters. You guys did great!!
Congrats on the relationship surviving too! Haha. I have heard reno’s can be so so stressful.
I’m impressed you got an ensuite in (was there one before?) with double basin and storage!
I like what was done to get the wide kitchen countertop also. Clever!
Great job! Renovations really are so much more work than you can ever imagine. You guys did a fantastic job.
Looks wonderful – Great job! My hubby’s a carpenter…and you’re right – things Always take longer than expected. Especially in older/existing homes….you never know what’s behind those walls 🙂
Thank you all!!! I’m so thrilled to be done. Just got home from having the window washer in-this one showed up-and holy smokes do the windows look great
So we are officially officially done
Now we can concentrate on the new house-only fencing and a garage and some minors in the basement, I have a firm promise from Dave that there will be no more reno’s for at least three years lol!!!
Jers-there was an ensuite, it’s in one of the befores with the yellow sink. There was only one sink though originally, we put in the double sinks and bulkhead lighting and it looks bigger! That’s actually where (if you remember lol) the stray momma dog raised her pups, she had them in the main bathroom but we figured humidity from showers would be no good, so after the birth we moved them to the ensuite. So the door had a few scratches on it on the inside from pups chewing on it lol
I do remember that dog and the fat puppies! I can hardly believe it was 4 yrs ago that you got that house.
Relieved to hear your not renovating at the current one. I was going to ask… ![]()
Wow, the renovations turned out fabulous!!! I have to say I LOVE the tiles in the bathroom. The long shape and color is amazing, I really want them!! Everything looks 10000x better. Congratulations, all your hard work paid off!
Wow! Fabulous!!! Lots of hardwork!!! I watch those renovation shows all time, holmes on homes and the DIY ones and I am always amazed at how challenging it is. Now you’ll have to have a housewarming party to celebrate! I would be so proud and thrilled if I were you. — I am sure you are!
Thanks all!! Definitely thrilled with the results, and so thrilled to be done. Never want to be a home depot regular again lol
We already moved out and are selling it-so no housewarming
But my brother might be interested in buying it so we could always crash his housewarming and brag during the night lol ![]()
Such a nice house! I am so envious.
I notice the toilet seat covers are open in your photos. Might I suggest that you keep them closed when not using, mostly for the safety of your rabbits in case you let them roam around the house. I am not sure how active and curious your rabbits are, but mine would get into anything and everything. The other day she jumped into the trash bin.
Also, it is better for your house Feng shui, if you believe in such things, to shut the toilet cover and toilet door, especially one attached to your bedroom.
I love your house, I have to say that again,
Thank you!! Such a compliment-it was hard work and I’m soaking in the nice things you said
We don’t actually live there anymore, so my bunnies are ok, but the Feng Shui is something to consider-and hey looks nicer to show the place too!! That’s a super idea ![]()
