I have had my male bunny Bo for about 8 months now. He started going through puberty in January but I have not had him neutered because I have only him.
He’s never had problems with his poop before but about a month ago I changed the pellets I used to feed him and he started pooping what looked like mud. He started getting really smelly too and I noticed it had been sticking to his furr on the bum area and so I changed my pellets back to the original and have been giving him baths.
However it’s been a month now and still no change. He does poop normally but at least once a day you’ll see this muddy poop as well and stuck to him no matter how often I give him baths (shallow and warm baths). I have also recently noticed that his normal poop is even collecting against the skin of his testicles which hang out a bit which I thought was normal, but the anus sticks right against the skin which is a bit loose so he’s pretty much pooping onto his testicles and because the skin is loose, it’s kind of carrying it, and it’s just creating a whole big mess down there.
I don’t even know if that is normal for his testicles to be like that, or for the anus to be so far out against them. At first I was worried about the poop but now I am worried about his anatomy as well. It looks a bit red as well so perhaps it is just swollen.
I know rabbits have a softer poop which they eat for nutrients but I don’t think this muddy thing is that. Well, I don’t think it would be that soft anyway.
I really don’t know what is going on. I even tried to not feed him so much pellets and just hay for a while but I don’t see how that is going to fix this problem with his testicles. Do you think he might need surgery? And would that be costly? I think because of it getting stuck to his furr all the time, his furr has started to get somewhat crusty as well, and there seems to be ulcers on his testicles.
Sorry for this graphic post, I am very worried, but not sure what to do. Thanks.
