That doesn’t sound normal, I would take him to a vet to see what they say. My male never had issues when he wasn’t neutered. He may just have large testicles that get in the way, or there may be an issue that may require having them removed, I can’t say. If he just needs a neuter, the price varies. I paid $95 for my rabbit.

As for cecotropes, they are very soft and mushy and when they come out, they are in kind of a grape shape (small mushy droppings stuck together like a bunch of grapes) and they smell VERY badly. He could be producing too many cecos to eat, if he’s getting too many pellets and so instead of eating them as they come out they are getting stuck to him. The texture of them is kind of like mud, solid enough to hold shape, but any pressure on it turns them into a brown, stinky glob of goo.

Often you can correct this with diet but it can take several months.

Is he on an alfalfa or timothy based pellet?

What type of hay does he eat?

Also, what other things does he have in his diet? Like vegetables, treats etc?

The ulcerations on his testicle could be irritation from the mucky poo and from the frequent washes.

I’m not certain if I’m understanding the description of his anus correctly but it sounds a little like a prolapse. It would be a good idea to have him looked at for sure. It may not necessarily mean surgery – it could just be related to the messy poo.

An initial consult for starters should not cost too much.

Oh that’s good, I hope you can get things better via diet. I dont recall if those articles suggest going straight onto hay only diet. I’ll have to read more thoroughly. Usually we try make changes in diet more gradual. So if you’ve already reduced his pellets some, I would do so even more.

Some rabbits will actually self moderate their pellets when being free-fed…but most are little piggies I know some of mine would gorge themselves if I tried it.

What could be causing the irritation on his testicles was just a guess. I hope you can get them looked at since they are looking abnormal.
