Hi there
I am new to BinkyBunny! Something interesting happened on the weekend and I have been looking over blogs and forums but I cannot seem to find a situation much like mine and I’d love to hear your thoughts.
I have two netherland Dwarfs - Billie he is a year and a half and Lua she is 5-6months
Around february this year we decided to get him a friend – Billie is neutered so we decided to go for a female friend for him. It took them about 1 week and they were the BEST of friends they do everything together really the cutest couple ever!
When we picked Lua up she was very young and the breeder was pretty 100% sure that she was a girl.
On the weekend – Lua decided to start to hump Billie – which I thought was rather odd as she is a girl and thats typically a male thing. So I flipped her over and to my surprise she was now a he! The most bizarre thing is we cut Lua’s toe nails the other day so we could see his underside but never noticed anything there.
I started to read up on whether is normal for male bunnies to start mounting other males and a lot of post are based around dominant aggressive bunnies. I have the opposite. Lua walks up to Billie kisses him all over the face and cleans behind his ears and billie kisses him back and then Lua proceeds to try and jump on billie. Billie doesn’t seem to mind but for his sake I remove lua off him and then straight away they go back to snuggling and laying next to each other. Billie has always been the dominant bunny between them although he has never EVER been aggressive.
I am taking Lua to the vet on the weekend – I will get him neutered in the coming months.
Has anyone experienced this type of behaviour – and do you think it will start off nice but get more aggressive? They are very much still in love which makes me happy.
