› FORUM › THE LOUNGE › Mimzy to vet tomorrow-vibes please?
Will be a very worrying trip as he hasn’t traveled since last summer. He has possible molar spurs, has definitely slowed down since his head tilt and gets disoriented/frighened very easily which sometimes results in return of his nystagmus and pounding heart loud enough for me to hear wihtout a stethoscope. ![]()
He may need an emergency GA tomorrow and I dread it for fear he will either not come out of it or will have some new health problem afterwards.
Could we have vibes for him, and for me who is going to have to drive him in and I haven’t been behind the wheel of a car in almost 6 months either.
Thankies in advance!
Oh no
Vibes for both of you!! Hope he pulls through okay. You’ve all been through enough!

We did really well
It was great seeing his old vet again. She is a lovely young woman who takes a real interest in him and is always gentle and thorough.
I was fortunate in that my OH decided to drive me in, which really helped me be calmer about the whole trip.
Mimzy has been assessed as being in great condition. His heart sounds good, she felt his tilt is not as bad as the last time she saw him (albeit that was August 2012) and wonder of wonders…he weighs about 4.9 pounds! 0_0
He was so thin last year. I began giving him about two teaspoons of pellets each night before I went to bed. I took him off them years ago for fear they were causing him health problems. They seem to have done him some good!
He needed his ears cleaned a bit, they were full of waxy buildup. But she couldn’t get him to hold still enough to get it all out, so we’ll take care of that during his dental. (It was too late in the day to do that today, so he’s scheduled for May 4th, I’ll take the other two in for their checkups the same day.) She found one spur on his lower left molar…that it’s only the one is a surprise. His incisors are in fine shape.
He ate hay while we were there, so of course now I look like a total liar. He leaves great piles of hay untouched at home. Plus he peed all over the exam table. His vet felt snubbed because he was being so stroppy today.
But all in all it was a good visit. I was so surprised and pleased that he is in such good shape and she seems positive about bringing him through his dental in a few weeks. What a relief!
Now if I can just get rid of the miserable headache that I’ve had all day. Must be from stress and lack of sleep. Either that or I’ve caught the latest yuck we have going around here because my throat is sore too.
Many thanks for all the awesome Binky Bunny vibes sent our way. They have helped enormously! ![]()
This is wonderful news MM!
Mimzy is quite the trooper.
Out of curiosity, does he tend to eat more on one side with his tilt?
Stay {{{healthy}}} vibes for you. You can rest easy now you know Mimzy’s doing well.
YAY! Sounds like all and all, good news! Whew! Hopefully you have gotten some sleep by now and are feeling less stressed.

Out of curiosity, does he tend to eat more on one side with his tilt?
Not sure what you mean, Jerz…do you mean he only chews on one side or that he can only eat to one side due to the tilt?
I’d say he’s still at 45 degrees most of the time. The spur is on the ‘down’ side. My worry was that he’d chewed his cheek or started brewing an abscess. She didn’t find anything like that, but we’ll have a better idea how his mouth is doing after his dental of course. I got the recent Rabbits magazine from the BB store and was shocked to see how they prop the bunny for this procedure.
Looks painful! I think Mimzy’s specialist dentist just laid him on his side and used spreaders for his jaw but he wasn’t trussed up like a turkey. She would give him a little gas, then do some work, then as he stirred she’d give him a little more and he’d go back to sleep…of course this was during xrays, I didn’t see the burring procedure.
He tends to come home with a spot where the dremel slips and gouges his cheek no matter who does the job, so I am hoping we can skip that this time.
Oddly enough today, after the vet cleaned his ears, he held his head straight. Not sure why and it went back to tilted a short while later. He’s still flapping those ears around, he must not appreciate the mop up.

Thanks again for the responses and yeah, I felt a huge weight off knowing the vet thought he was doing well. Considering how he looked the last time he was seen, I can imagine she would think that, but the heart thing was big. I was so certain he was starting to have trouble with it and concern was originally that he had a thymoma, but that’s ruled out.
Now if I could just get him to deal better again with being handled, but alas, I think those days are gone. He must have some residual damage to the middle/inner ear that makes his spatial compass spin whenever he’s picked up. He just flails. I may have some xrays taken of his skull to see if there’s any obvious deficit and to check his tooth roots, and if that’s being done I may as well have a spinal shot to see how that lower back and hips look. He’s about due for one. I know he has spondylosis so I want some idea of how it’s progressing. And to be sure he hasn’t done more damage with how he wiggles anytime he’s moved.
I think I’m coming down with something myself though. Had that headache all day, had to take some serious painkillers for it, now it’s coming back again as they wear off. Funny how when you’re stressed your body puts off feeling rubbish…then when the stress lifts your body decides to break down.

So yeah…going to do some power napping over the next few days if I can!

Yay! So glad it went well and he is in such good shape! What a relief it is to have a positive vet visit.
Very happy for you both!
Hurray! So glad to hear good news. Even neutral news would have sufficed! *hugs*
