I was just looking at some random sites and following links from various bun sites, and stumbled upon this.

        http://www.mindspring.com/~tbgray/rabbits.htm

man it made me so mad! Half of there stuff is totally done wrong anyway!

Bun kept outside. Keeping two un-neutered buns together. Not feeding veggies regularly. Giving pellets all the time. Saying buns are unaffectionate – um…you have to show it to get it, right? Saying they’re boring. Saying they’re hard to train. Constantly comparing them to cats or dogs – if you hate bunnies that much, get your dog or cat and shut up! Not doing proper research…

i could to go on, but I won’t. Does anybody share my confusion and frustration with this link?!

What an idiot. For some reason he seems to think it’s the “rabbit-afficionados'” fault that he was unable to littertrain his buns properly. That’s kind of hilarious actually. He is inadequate and he blames it on the rabbits themselves + on the rabbit-afficionados. Well, most inadequate people tend to blame their inadequacies on others.

Exactly my point! No pet is easy, heck nothing’s easy! But it’s the buns fault that he’s a closed minded idiot of course…

He is obviously a moron. To write stuff like that and then call rabbit-lovers who get mad at him “mean-spirited, judgemental, and immature” – as if his whole article isn’t just that.

Reading it made me feel happy that I’m a rabbit-loving person =)

Yes. Reminds me how lucky our buns are to belong to such bun loving community members!

This has been posted before by members. I don’t think he’s being mean, he’s just stating what issues he’s had and it’s really issues that many of our members have problems with as well.

Rabbits certainly are not for everyone and really it’s better to be honest about how rabbits really are and they do have some behaviors that can be frustrating which many rabbit owners experience.

I don’t agree with many of his statements but I think some of his points are certainly valid and rabbit owners do need to know that rabbits can be destructive, that rabbits should be altered, that pet stores usually always make mistakes, and that rabbits do require ALOT of maintenance. Those are all true.

“I even fed them fresh vegetables or fruit from time to time, as rabbit owners are supposed to do (interesting that I don’t have to feed my cats fresh meat from time to time – why do rabbits need such a varied diet when cats can survive just fine on a steady supply of Meow Mix?).”

This is where I just died. I just started laughing at the ignorance. But in all seriousness, this article frustrated me.

hmmm I didn’t read the whole thing but I got the gist of it. Like Sarita said, rabbits are not for everyone. It takes very understanding, patient people to own bunnies, in my opinion. Rabbits have always been my favorite animal and I will never stop loving them. We as rabbit lovers may not understand a different look or opinion on them but it’s true rabbits can be difficult to care for if you’re not educated on them. In his case he wasn’t really educated. He knew bits and pieces about them. His rabbits didn’t live long from my understanding, which is totally sad.

Anyway, I hope the GOOD rabbit people outweigh the bad…

They probably died so young because of the horrible, improper care the rabbits recieved. If he wants a pet that has a long life span he should get a parrot or a horse. I feel really bad for all of his pets. I wish he would AT LEAST look up a rabbit’s diet before actually getting a rabbit!

I think Bunny Girl made the real point in one of her understandable outbursts. Everything other members said about rabbits needing care and having special needs etc. is true, but that really is true of any pet. Depending on your lifestyle and/or personality most people will find some care giving more of a problem. Basically you need to learn about things ahead of time and pick an animal that works for you (or some people should truly opt for an attractive plant, in my humble opinion), picking a pet that doesn’t blend with your lifestyle, habits and preferences does make it your responsibility when it turns out to be “too much trouble”. Dogs and cats take a lot of time and care too in their own ways. I suppose they some times seem easier since they are usually free to walk over and announce that they want a pat, cuddle, etc. simplifies our caring for them, and I think makes some people think they are lower maintenance.

Sorry, that’s my ramble for the evening.

Perhaps he isn’t mean, but he’s ignorant and he doesn’t know it, doesn’t even suspect it, and I have a hard time with people like that.

There are several passages in his text that strike me as profoundly stupid and childish. He seems to bear a grudge against rabbits, as if the very species has offended him by not being what he’d expected or wanted.

Yes Bam! I think my frustration is in what he has against rabbits, it’s very confusing and annoying and stupid and you can probably tell I’m mad. More than mad. I’m angry -.- mum says I don’t care too much, I take things insulting animals too personally! I love animals, what can I say?

Okay I’m reading this right now and had to stop to say something. Why would you keep your rabbit outdoors when you live in Houston? Houston is like the hottest, most humid city EVER. Obviously they died after four years, it’s 100000 degrees outside!!!
