I did already post questions up in another forum about Lolli and a puppy, so if you read you already know.  But I kind of wanted to make a formal announcement.  lol

After almost 3 years of bugging my dad, he is finally allowing me to get another pet.  Which is a miracle as he won’t let me get another rabbit.  So at the beginning of May, I will be bringing home a yorkie mix puppy.  My aunt has a full yorkie female and a yorkie/tibetan spaniel mix male.  The parents are a little over a year old and this was a whoops litter.  Which annoys me as a responsible pet owner, but I can’t do anything about it.  So I will be bringing a girl home.

I think he finally agreed to the dog because 1) the puppies are free, 2) it will be MY dog so I will be assuming all financial responsibility, and 3) he secretly really wants a dog.  lol   He does like Lolli and she will allow him to pet her occasionally, but…she’s a bunny and he doesn’t really understand her as he’s always asking me about her behavior.  At times, I think he is perplexed by this is little diva ball of fur.  LOL  He is more familiar with dogs.     So I am starting to get prepared.  Reading some training books, researching, and over thinking everything like I always do.  But I am sooooo excited and hopefully when the puppy grows up and really learns her manners, her and Lolli can be introduced and hopefully be able to spend SUPERVISED time together.

I’m not sure I would worry about a dog like this around a rabbit – Yorkies are tiny and probably just the yapping will bother Lolli – I had to look up the Tibetan Spaniel – which is another little dog. I bet it’s going to be an adorable dog.

I think I am nervous because when I let Eddie sniff Lolli for the first time outside the pen, I was holding her and didn’t think I was letting him THAT close but in an instant he had bit her cheek which results in stitches. So I am worried about Lolli possibly getting hurt AND I’m worried about Lolli going all rabbit kung fu on the dog. I know everything will be fine, but I do like to worry.

There are 6 puppies. 5 have the standard yorkie coloring. And then one odd ball girl is white and black in the spaniel fashion. LOL

              Can’t wait to see piccies!

A lot of people use carriers for those 1st introductions. Not in a carrier together obviously. Haha!

The new pet being in the carrier so the other can check it out safely. It’s a good way for the pets to get used to one another and gauge reactions etc.

After the puppy gets used to being in a new home, I was going to move her kennel to Lolli’s room so they can start getting used to one another. And then I was just going to let the puppy “discover” Lolli in her pen. They won’t be allowed to meet without a barrier until the puppy is trained and then the puppy will be on a leash. Obviously I am paranoid.

I saw the puppies last Saturday. They were 15 days old and still didn’t have their eyes opened but were starting to try to wiggle around. When they get a bit older, I plan on going back over and I will definitely take pics!

                  Exciting! I love Yorkies.

Keep in mind, though, that although they are small, the Yorkie was bred to be a mouse/rat catcher so it has instincts to chase little animals. Just make sure to do slow, calm meetings and don’t leave them unsupervised.

Abbie is a dachshund mix and they are bred to hunt as well in tunnels and such but she does AMAZING with my buns I’m sure once that puppy gets out of the puppy phase, as in wanting to play and chew on everything, she will do great as well

I think it will be fine as its a pup, so she can learn from the start that buns are friends, not food good luck!

Awww…well I’m not a bit biased about Yorkie mixes *ahem…pokes avvy*
I was very fortunate in that Jenna was already a few years old and used to being around other animals when I brought her home. She has, to date, never made a threatening move towards the bunnies and since Fiver’s night habby is right next to my bed, she sees him all the time and when he comes out for a romp on the bed she just goes up on the pillow behind me and ignores him. Sometimes she’ll cross right in front of him and idly flap him with her tail and he can get startled, or it’s cute when she’s sleeping and he comes stealthily up to grab a sniff, but for the most part they leave one another alone. She is just an all around gentle dog.

I too am dying to see pix! Sounds like a wonderful wee pup. Once you’ve had a Yorkie in your life you wonder how you ever lived without one!
