hi here is a helpful tip i was told by a vet if you can not make it to a vet immediately and your rabbit has fly strike/maggots.
Use a large syringe filled with diluted iodine/bettadine antiseptic and flush the maggots out. wipe off with a damp cloth when they wash out of the cavity & repeat until no maggots are visible. You can pick/wipe any off that you can access.
This flushing with a syringe is helpful if maggots are embedded in the skin or a cavity.
The iodine on the skin is gentle and does not sting and it is a quick way to remove maggots especially if there are a lot and tweezers are not effective.
repeat a few hours after to be sure you have removed all rabbits.
Get the rabbit to a vet as soon as you can as the rabbit will need antibiotics and a check up. If your rabbit is lethargic or looking very unwell and droopy ring a vet for advice as probably critical to get them treated immediately.
If you are confident your bunny has no maggots and seems alert and quite normal, take them to vet as soon as you can – within 24 hours.
and definitely, keep all flies away from your rabbit and keep fur trimmed any where there is wound, dampness or soiling.
I hope this is helpful to bunny lovers
