  Please help!! I posted about Panda’s poop just over a week ago but it won’t let me back on it. It seemed a bit iffy a week back and she wasn’t eating her cecotropes so i cut back on the greens and pellets and encouraged her to eat more hay. She’s been fine in that she’s running around the garden still and is eating what seems to be normally, however i went into the garden to check on her and her husbun and found her poo covered in jelly-like stuff – is it mucus?! (photo below – i had to move it slightly so the jelly has come away from the poo). I’m so worried it might be a sign of statis and i’ll be taking her to the vets asap however similar things have happened before and because they’re not rabbit-savvy they always tell me nothing’s wrong, and past experiences have left me with bunnies passing away later that day…i don’t even have a car so there’s no way of going further away to a specialist! : (
  
  I’ve put her out of the garden and back into their room at the moment to isolate her so i can monitor her poos for a while, but i can’t for too long cos they stress out when they’re not together
  
  Also, her stomach seems to be making small rumbling noises – something to be worried about?!?
  
  I want her to pull through whatever it is so much

  I hope Panda’s doing better today! My bunnies have produced some pretty strange poops before- my boy, BunBun, has a very delicate stomach. I did read about a bunny having jelly-like stuff in poops and then resumed pooping normally. The stomach rumbing is usually gas/belly upset- I try to rub my bunnies stomaches when I hear this- even if they run off, the running around helps get their guts moving again sometimes. The rumbling is actually good, as opposed to a completely silent gut- rumbling/gurgling mean things are at least moving in there! Often I hear lots of noise right before my rabbits recover and start eating again. I always check their ears too- cold ears concern me because that can mean they are in pain/shock. The fact that Panda was still eating/acting OK last you wrote is good.
  If she is still eating and you see normal poops, I would think she’s getting past whatever was wrong. But if you see more abnormal poops or she’s not eating, I would definurely get a vet appt ASAP. I understand the problem of not having a rabbit savvy vet- car rides/vet visits are traumatic and if the vet doesn’t even know how to treat rabbits, it’s hard to know if the trip will even help. Usually a vet that says “Exotics or Avian” will treat bunnies- they tend to know more about “different” pets like birds/reptiles/lagamorphs. It it’s not an emergency, an hour trip is well worth it if you can do that. With a rabbit who is not eating/pooping or cold and cannot be warmed up, I would just head for a closer vet, they should be able to provide sub-Q fluids and a heating disc, and could maybe consult with an rabbit savvy vet while they are stabilizing your bunny.   It does look like her gut has been a bit sluggish. Is she going through a molt? Was she eating well prior to this?
  
  If she hasn’t been eating her cecatrophes, it’s possible her gut is a bit out of balance.
  
  Can you tells us a little bit more about her? i.e. Age, weight (is she overweight?), regular diet, any health conditions.

  My rabbit Jersey has irregular poo often and they can vary from small dark hard, to golden and over large. They are rarely perfectly round like you see with other rabbit poos. She had had bouts of stasis and I would see mucous when she would start toileting again. Usually like a plug of mucous. I have on occasion seen a bit when her output has been sluggish.
  
  My other rabbit Jelly had sudden stasis at end of last year but when he started going again, his poo was unformed mush and more watery type mucous. He did have some jelly-like globs during the stasis. It indicated there was inflammation. From my understanding, the mucous is produced to protect the gut walls from the altered PH during inflammation.

  Thank you everyone, she still seems ok regarding eating/running around/grooming herself etc. Took her to the vet last night just in case and they said she wasn’t at all bloated and her teeth/eyes etc were fine, although as I say they’re not rabbit-savvy (but they’re still pretty good!), but they gave me some Fibreplex to give her 3 times daily.
  
  jerseygirl, she’s about 2 years old and she’s about 2.3kg – her diet’s a small amount of mixed pellets and nuggets with a tiny bit of muesli mixed in as a treat, they also get greens twice a day and a bit of kale in the morning, a few slices of apple in the evening as well as a handful of parsley between them – i’ve cut their diet down however and have been trying to encourage them to eat mostly hay – they’re not happy about it!
  
  I just picked Panda up and have seen about 5 poos, they have no mucous on thank god but are still very soft and had squished out a bit – hopefully if i just fiddle with her diet a bit and cut down on greens and encourage more hay i’ll see an improvement!

  I’ve heard of Fibreplex through UK rabbit owners. There is also Pro-fibre pellets by the same company that could be beneficial.
  
  Good luck in tweaking the diet. You might have some grumpy bunnies for a short time but they do adjust. Some become mad on hay after its really been encouraged.
