  So my 13 pound English Lop follows her own rules already. But now I took her to the vet and she has a bladder infection. So she’s on Sulfa/trimeth suspension and benebac. She WILL NOT take them. The first time she was okay. But now she realized what it is and she’s not a happy bun! No matter how I approach her it is impossible, even with someone else helping me. Tonight I had to resort to using some yogurt drops I had lying around (i never give them to my buns), i molded it around the tip of the syringe for the sulfa/trimeth, and then made a “benebac” sandwich with two yogurt drops. But I know her, and she’ll remember in the morning and won’t trust it again! Have you ever had this problem with your smarty pants buns?

  Yogurt drops? Oh my, those are not good for bunnies. Have you tried flavoring the medicine with something? You could mix it with some blended fruit. Does she have something she really likes?

  The vet made it cherry flavored. And I know they aren’t good, i never ever give them to her, but it was my last option. Her favorite fruit is apple, so I infused an apple with some of the meds, and she smelled it, and then hopped away and gave me the stink eye! I also put some into blended fruit, and she did the same thing. This woman is so stubborn.

  Best way honestly is to just hold them and place the syringe in their mouth behind the teeth. Stickers would leave most her medicine on the floor if it was in food, or simply ignore it. And she hated being held and forced to eat her meds but she had to for her health.

  yeah it’s really hard because of how large she is. when my bun luna had a bladder infection, she was super easy to put into a bunny burrito and give her meds to, because she was 3 or 4 pounds. savannah is 13 pounds and already bites way too often. she’s frightening when she’s mad, as much as i love her. she’s SO strong and i don’t want to hurt her by holding her down too hard. i’ve really never had this much trouble with a bun before! my other three are sweet and small. she’s huge and an angry girl. we got her from people who treated her awful so she has some anger issues at times. she’s drawn blood on me on several occasions. but i’ll do what i have to for her health of course, i love her.

  I don’t use the bunny burrito on mine, it isn’t secure enough for me, Powder is pretty large (8lbs). What I did for holding was boyfriend held them against his chest, one hand on the shoulder blades (this prevents a lot of struggling in my buns) and another supporting their back near the tail, with his arm pressing lightly across the rest of them. Mine won’t fight or struggle when held like that (only way they don’t fight us), but the vet also holds them on a table with slight pressure on the shoulder blades, which could work since yours bites. For giving the meds, maybe wear some gloves in case of being bitten, but there is a way you can hold the head so they can’t move and your hands are safe from bites. I had to secure Stickers head so she would stop thrashing it around and spilling her meds everywhere, then the brat tried to push it out of her mouth with her tongue lol
  
  Our vet showed us several ways to secure her when I had to give her meds, maybe yours could give you tips on how to make it easier? Mine didn’t take to the pineapple flavoring, she knew it was medicine! Even though the vet was surprised cause “most buns eat it like candy”.

  The best way with the large rabbits is to put them in between your legs on the ground and have them face out and reach over and plunge the syringe in their mouth.

  I was going to suggest what Sarita said. You basically “sit” on them by sitting on your knees and creating a space between your legs. You might want to cover your legs with something though if she’s a biter.

  I suggest some THICK sweatpants and probably a blanket layer between to avoid the nasty bruising rabbit teeth cause through clothes when they can’t break skin if you use this method with a biter. One of the worst bites I ever took was when Powder decided to bite me through a thin layer of fleece, didn’t break skin, but ow he put a lot of pressure to cause a nice deep bruise.

  thanks so much to all of you! i’ll definitely try that sitting method! she’s sweet in general, but if she doesn’t like something, she definitely resorts to biting quickly. and she’s learned fast to hate this medicine. i can’t wait until it’s over! haha. i wish she knew that it’s all to make her feel better! she actually like the eye drops they gave me for a cut on her eye. the eye drops must feel good. i’ll let you know how the sitting method works!

  Yeah, I wish you could explain to them it’s medicine to make them better. Poor Stickers hated me for like two weeks after her medicine ended and came up with a new way of fighting me on it every day when I tried to dose her. I give a craisin after medicine to get the icky taste to go away and so it’s at least something pleasant.
