Marley went to the vet today for a check up.  He was SUCH a good boy!  He even groomed me for the first time!  Such a sweet heart!  He is healthy except for his poor teeth.  One side is grown too long and curved into his tongue and is also sharp.  That is probably why he isn’t eating much hay or pellet.  He eats his greens but I don’t see him eating hay very often.  The cost for the dental is going to be about $145 so it isn’t that bad but it sucks because he will have to go under and I don’t like doing that.  I have to do it though so he can eat.  Anyways that’s the update on him.

Yep, that’s the problem with the Netherland Dwarf’s – mine gets sedated every 3 months and I took my senior girl Toffee in today for a dental – it’s not ideal but it’s safe and it’s better to get the dental done than to fear the sedation. If you can control this it won’t be so bad, just know the signs.

Glad he was a good boy. Hope you can get his teeth done soon.

I am taking Marley tomorrow early morning to the vet again. This time he’s getting his dental. Makes me nervous. I know he’ll be okay. They are great at my vet. So glad I found a good bunny vet!

I just found out via Facebook message that I don’t even have to pay for Marley’s teeth to be fixed.  The rescue will cover it since it is pre-existing.  That is good to know, now.  lol  Still doesn’t take the worry away though.  =(  I just have to be confident in my vet.  She is really good with rabbits, so I am sure she will do well.

Wow you don’t have to pay? Is it just for this time or for all his trims?

I freak out anytime my rabbits have to get something done. You should have seen me when I was waiting for Lulu’s spay! Even when she had to get x-rays I was terrified! It is totally normal about what your feeling! I am sure he will be just fine though! Keep us updated!

Just this time is free, but it’s only $99 after the first trim. The first trim is $145 (which I do not have to pay, because the rescue is covering it), then every 3 months $99 if he needs it.

Wow, that’s a great deal for a tooth trim. Mine is around $210 for the trim, anesthesia, and pain meds and she charges me for a follow up exam. It does depend though how long the trim takes – that’s for the procedure under 15 minutes – if it’s over 15 minutes (or something along these lines), it’s about $260.00.

Yeah I thought it was a good deal too! Love my vet, except she didn’t give pain meds…Is that normal? Marley doesn’t appear to be in pain so I don’t think it hurts him but you never know.

I brought Marley home just a few ago. He seems to be doing well. I just want to see him eating hay now! =) He ate all his pellets for the day. I knew I should have only given him half a days worth of pellets. I can give him more greens later, as I only gave him a small portion since I wasn’t sure how much to bring to the vet. I am not sure the vet gave him hay while he was there. I brought it but the bag was untouched. Maybe they had their own supply? Who knows.

He chewed on his toilet paper roll when I put him in his condo and then went to the second level of the condo. =P So I’d say he’s doing just fine.

Glad he doesn’t seem to be in pain. My vet always sends Metacam to be given as needed. Some bunnies are just more tough about their mouths.

Every vet has a different protocol for molar trims and it does depend on the degree I suppose as well. My current vet does but my prior vet did not use pain meds for the procedure. Both recommended metacam and/or buprenex as needed for after the procedure.

Glad all went well for him.

Well Marley is eating hay now but I will just have to keep an eye on how much hay he’s eating. He didn’t eat his pellets this morning though. Maybe he just wasn’t in the mood. I don’t think he’s a big pellet eater, to be honest. I think he likes his greens more. =)
