  Hello all, thank you for reading ahead of time.
  
  My rabbit (Hatter) has recently been experiencing some hard times with not eating and being pretty lethargic. After a visit to our local vet I found out that one of his back molar teeth has overgrown and started stabbing into his gums, as well as being excruciatingly painful for him to eat anything hard. After some X-Rays they told me they would only have to shave it down, since his tooth seems to be growing normally; the problem is, the vet I’m going to takes me and my family for idiots.
  
  They’ve tried to completely milk us for money on two separate occasions: Taking two X-Rays two separate days (for literally no reason), and giving anesthesia to Hatter twice on two separate days just to examine his teeth even though they had done it once before. I’ve stopped them those two times, but now that a final estimate has come for shaving his teeth, I can’t help but feel like they’re milking me for money again. The estimate is $803, so my question is: How much did you have to pay (if you had to), is there an alternate to this, should I switch vets asap? I would really like to have some advice =(

  I would switch vets but do it TODAY. Your little man needs his teeth done and the situation can rapidly go from bad to worse if left untreated.
  Are there other bunny savvy vets in your immediate area that you can see straight away ? Or are they charging like this because they have a monopoly in the area… If that is the case you may just need to bite the bullet and get it done. It cannot remain untreated, your little guy will be in extreme pain and it is going to get worse and lead to infections and a lot of other problems.

  Well, what is included in that cost? I know rates vary greatly all over the place.
  
  My cost usually without x-rays is $250.00 – that includes the gas/medicine/trim, so it’s not cheap.
  
  Is this including bloodwork?
  
  I definitely would call around though – you need to get those teeth trimmed because you are right, it causes pain and they will stop eating.

  Well I’m starting to look around as both of you have said, but Sarita, your price is still TREMENDOUSLY less expensive than $800. It includes X-Rays, different types of medicine, anesthesia, the trim (which according to this estimate they gave me cost $200 alone for that procedure) and boarding cost.

  I would switch vets immediately. I live in a really expensive area, and my previous rabbit vet was very expensive, and they charged about $250 to do Hannah’s teeth.
  
  Full anesthetic isn’t generally needed – Hannah was given some gas to make her sleep, but it wasn’t a full procedure. Xrays were also not required, as they can see into the mouth with a scope. Boarding wasn’t required either – the vet checked her teeth, said they needed to be fixed, then took her back and did it in about 15min and I took her home. The only medicine required was some pain meds that I gave her for a few days as she recovered.
  
  Unless there is something very wrong with your rabbit, compared to the normal trim Hannah needed, that whole thing sounds necessarily stressful and expensive.

  Hatter is currently eating soft food and is doing just fine until his tooth can get shaved.

  I just wanted to pipe in and say, that like Sarita and Elrohwen, the cost for the trimming the molars (and occasional the incisors), never reached over $280.00 for my bunny.

  Hi! I’ve also decided to take my bunny to a vet, but the problem is that I don’t know how to find a reliable specialist. I’v read a lot of reviews trying to figure out what makes a good vet, but no success.. I’m still searching. Can you please help?
