  Hey Guys! Jack is about a year old. And I’m think about getting him nuetered. This week I’m going to chat with a local small animal specialist about it. He special in guinea pig & rabbit care. I’m lucky I could find one! So anyway I was on HouseRabbitSociety brushing up on my knowledge about nuetering and I saw this
  
  “It is always a good idea, in a rabbit over 2 years of age, to have a very thorough health check done, including full blood work. This may be more expensive than the surgery, but it will help detect any condition that could make the surgery more risky. This is especially important if anesthetics other than isofluorene are used.” I don’t have to worry about this, do I? Isn’t this just for rabbits 2 years of age or older?

  Sorry, that was random but if you wanna know what it’s about it’s a man who raises a beautfiul clydesdale from a baby, and then the people for the company of budweiser take him for their campaign or something but YOU JUST GOTTA WATCH IT!<3

  If he’s only a year old he shouldn’t need bloodwork — usually a rabbit savvy vet will give them a small check-up before putting them under anyways. I know my vet did and my bun was younger than yours!!
  
  Also, I lOVEEEE horses and that commercial was SUCH a tear-jerker. UGH!

  I would talk to the vet and see what they recommend. Blood work isn’t a “bad idea” at any age, but if money is a factor, you should be able to forgo it.

  I agree with Beka. My vet did recommend blood work on Otto and he was just 5 months, but I don’t think it’s necessary unless they are older. See what your vet thinks.

  My vet does a preliminary blood work before she does any spay/neuter whether it be for an rabbit, dog, or cat. My vet had the price of the blood work bundled in with the spay/neuter costs because it was just routine thing that she did. I would talk to your vet and see if they do the same thing. I don’t see the harm in getting done. It was actually because of getting the blood work done that we decided to put of my little girl’s spay until she was fighting fit to do recover from the surgery.

  I have another question, what questions should I ask the vet, to make sure he’s a good vet? I know there’s been a post about this subject before, but I can’t find it anywhere!!
