› FORUM › HOUSE RABBIT Q & A › Meatball not eating and lethargic
My coworker let me know that Meatball has been lethargic and not eating much since last night. We are both really worried about him. She’s taking him to the vet at 11 AM today. I’m really worried about him and am sad.
I’m so sorry, Cheddar. Keeping my fingers crossed that he’s okay.
(((HEALING VIBES MEATBALL)))
Has he been to the vet yet?
((((((Feel Better Meatball)))))
My coworker left, so she’s probably there with him now. She’s going to update me when possible.
My coworker came back to work and said that she had to leave Meatball at the vet. They are force feeding him and running tests and x-rays. There’s something wrong with his intestines. ![]()
Oh no, poor little guy. My thoughts are with him!
Meaty has gas. They are going to put a tube in. My coworker left to be with him at the vet. She’s such a good owner. Thanks for all the thoughts and healing vibes.

Intubating? Do they suspect bloat? ![]()
Lots more vibes for Meatball……………………. Hoping he is OK…
((((Vibes for Meatball)))) – hope the vet can break up the gas in his tummy for him. Poor little bun.
(((((Meatball))))) Keep us posted Regina.
Ugh, poor Meatball. Sending lots more vibes.
Poor little Meaty
Get well soon, little guy!
Hoping there is a positive update for little Meatball today.
(((((Meatball)))))
Poor Meatball, I hope he’s doing better today.
Meatball had to be transported to another vet overnight last night. He is still not pooping or peeing. It’s GI Statis. He’s not eating either. He did hop around for a bit, so that’s good.
My coworker might join the forum and post for advice on Meaty.
Hopping is good, moving around can help jump start things into going again. Hop, Meaty, hop!
Poor meaty, I really hope he is feeling better soon!
((((((((((((((((Vibes for meatball))))))))))))))))))
Sending vibes!!! I hope Meatball feels better real soon!
Oh dear
Topping up vibes for Meaty and sending a welcome in advance for your coworker!
I hope he is better soon. (((((((((((((((Meatball))))))))))))))))))))
Ugh, Meatball.
Sending more healing vibes buddy!
Hi Everyone,
Thank you so much for all the healing vibes for poor meaty. I picked Meaty up at the vet and the vet tech was telling me that he was angry at her for all the force feeding and was thumping his feet madly. He still had not pooped or peed though.
She gave me critical care to force feed him every 4 hours but said that if he ate any food, it could be a supplement.
He was hopping around lively in the carrier and I saw that he had peed in the carrier, was really happy to see that.
I went to the store and got one of his favorite foods, parsley. Much to my delight, Meatball began tentatively eating it. However, as soon as it started, he stopped after a bit and looked really tired again. He’s been hoping around a bit but mostly staying put.
I gave him some massage which he tolerated well. He still hasn’t pooped though. Has anyone had experience with a bunny not pooping for this long?
My Moose had stasis once. One thing that helped was gas relief drops for babies. also known as simethicone.. you cant really overdose on it, and it may make him more comfortable.
Thanks for the tip. The vet only gave me the critical care to use but I’m going in for a check in tomorrow so I will ask him about that. Meaty hopped into one of the litter boxes and ate some Timothy Hay but then stopped. I’m still excited that he ate something.
For Moose, how long did it take for him to poop?
you can pick them up at any grocery store, really.
it took him over a day to poop i think, making him move around, so nudge meaty into hopping around ![]()
I’m so glad to hear that meaty peed and thumped. He’s a fighter, that boy.
Have been massaging Meaty’s tummy and some good news. He’s now eating a lot of veggies, so much so that I’m not going to be force feeding him. And, some poop came out. I hope that Meaty is on the mend now… Thanks everyone for the well wishes.
So happy to hear. Give meaty pets for me. ![]()
Thank you! He’s enjoying the petting. Noodle is very happy that Meaty is here and has been resting her head on his back. ![]()
I’m glad to hear the positive update. We all love Meatball here on BB.
(((((More Meatball Healing Vibes))))))
Yay Meatball! Way to go (poop)!
Oh this is good news!
Topping up vibes that the improvements continue. ![]()
Thanks everyone! Meatball is doing great! The weekend was very stressful because Meatball didn’t seem to be acting quite like himself. On Friday, we did the sub q and that was very stressful too.
His fiesty personality is back now though his poop doesn’t look regular yet. I was wondering if anyone has used benebec gel to help get the intestinal flora back to equilibrium?
Thanks!
I have tried using Benebac with my bunnies during stasis episodes. Sometimes it seems to help and others not. I use it during antibiotics regimens most often to help keep their guts normal.
Sub Q’s are a difficult thing…Mimzy had head tilt during the summer last year and wouldn’t drink. I had to give him 50 ml at least once a day to help keep him hydrated. I did accidentally bleed him once which made me feel terrible.
As soon as he was fighting me too hard for me to get the needle in I realized he was taking in enough fluid during his veggies time that I didn’t need to administer them anymore.
It helps if you have one person to help steady the bunny. For me, Mimzy was too dizzy to give me much trouble. Otherwise I admit I’d never have been able to do it at all.
I hope Meaty will be completely recovered soon. (((((((((((((((((((vibes)))))))))))))))))))))))
Glad Meatball is back to his fiesty self.
((((Normal Poop Vibes)))))
YAY for meatball who is lucky to have such a caring diligent human to take such excellent care of him and nurse him back to health. So Yay for you too!
Happy to read this update. So cute how Noodle reacted having him back. <3
Hi MimzMum,
Thanks for the information about Benebac. I think I will try it. As far as the simethicone, does it matter what brand it is? Any recommendations? I’m trying to put together my emergeny gi status kit just in case of an emergency.
I know what you mean about Sub Q. I was freaking out because after Meatball had Sub Q. he kept blinking his eyes and then was rocking back and forth. I almost fainted from fright when I saw him rocking unsteadily. But, a minute in, he starts jumping around like a bunny on crack. haha. I was so relieved.
Thanks for all the healing vibes. Meatball is doing very well and seems to be appreciating Noodle more as he’s continuously grooming her. ![]()
I don’t know about brands, I used to get Mylicon infant drops but my local supermarket only carries their own generic brand now and it has a bunch of weird ingredients in it, so I had to have my nearest pharmacy specially make some for all my pets that has nothing in it I have to worry about.
Lots of these include things like xylitol, which is poisonous to most animals. Watch out for this and other ‘left handed’ sugars.
That’s odd about the rocking. Maybe he was just breathing hard?
Glad to see he is doing better though. ![]()
