  Hey guys! I just got my little miss Effy spayed yesterday and since its my first time dealing with the post op care, I’m a little overly worried. She doesn’t seem to be in pain, just sore. She’s mostly sleeping. My biggest concern is that I only saw her drink a little bit of water this morning and her appetite. I know its normal for them to loose their appetite after a spay, but when should I become concerned that she’s not eating? She ate a tiny bit of banana (her favorite) last night, and I got her to eat two raisins this morning. So far, she’s not interested in her greens at all. Any advice? What are your guys’ experiences with bun spays?

  How many hours has it been since she was spayed? It’s VERY common for this — however, typically if it lasts over 24 hours with NO eating or drinking then you should contact your vet. However, she did seem to eat her banana and raisins so I think she is probably slowly coming around. Does she have a favorite veggie that you could entice her with? Something fragrant like cilantro or basil? Even try hand-feeding her a pellet or two. This is really normal so I think you may be doing the typical bunny overworry!
  
  But you should continue to try and get her to eat. Water down her favorite veggies before giving them to her so she’s getting a little water in her system if she’s not drinking normally. Also, do you have all her food in easy access? Somewhere where she doesn’t have to stand to reach them? If they are elevated at all, she may just be too sore to reach them. Which you don’t want her doing anyways.

  She was spayed yesterday morning, So about 24 hours or so. I’ve tried to get her to eat mint and cilantro, (which she normally would gobble down), but no luck. She’s sleeping in her litter box, which I changed before I brought her home, and I put some warm water bottles in it too. I’ve got her water dish and her food bowl, with veggies, right text to it. I had a feeling I was over worrying, cause I do that especially with her, but I like to hear it from someone else :p

  We all do! Hahah, since she’s been eating something I wouldn’t worry too much. Did your doctor send you home pain meds for her? If not, I would get some. If she’s in pain this could be making her more lethargic.

  She’s eaten a little bit now. She’s completely passed out at the moment. They did give me pain medicine. She mostly just seems frustrated that she can’t do anything. Thanks for calming my worrying mama-ness

  Girls tend to be more lethargic then boys. I would just make sure that your little girl is getting fluids in her. If you’re worried about her lack of eating I would try to feed her some Critical Care.

  she’s much better today! but all she’ll eat is carrot tops. she’s still not drinking much water, but ive been drenching the carrot tops, so she’s at least getting a little.

  Recovery for females is harder. It’s good that she was nibbling on foods.The carrot tops will offer hydration and that may be why she drank less water. Also good she had pain meds too!

  Almost there! She’s eating more or less normal (just not finishing her pellets like she usually would). She’s wandering around, and playing with her toys. Still lots of naps, but I can’t blame her!

  She will be less energetic for a little while. It is a pretty major surgery, after all. ((((Continued Recovery Vibes)))))
