I think my Charley is around 10 weeks old now. Her nails are razor sharp and I was wondering when should I give her nails their first trim? Anytime now, or should I wait ’til she’s older/certain age? And how often should they be trimmed in the beginning? I know that you have to trim them frequently to get the nail kwick to recede. I’m really nervous about trimming them, so I will try the burrito/towel wrap method w/ a helper. If we can’t manage I will try to take her to get them done at the vets.
I’ve read different things about when to introduce fresh veggies and fruits. I’ve read anywhere from 3-4 months to waiting til around 6 months old. If Charley is just about to turn 10 weeks old, when should I introduce her first veggies. Also what veggies/fruits would you recommend starting off on. I am aware that fruit should be limited. I also do have the safe fruit/veggie list from the HRS.
I don’t give her any treats from the store. She is on a diet of alfalfa pellets, timothy hay and alfalfa, all are free fed/given unlimited. I toss out and refill her pellet dish about every 3 days and it only holds about 1/4 a cup. She’s not near as interested in them as she is her timothy hay. She has a hay rack w/ a mix of timothy & alfalfa as well as getting fresh hay in her litter box daily & at play time. I’m in no rush to get her fresh veggies or fruit if its too soon, but it would be nice to be able to give her a special treat here or there.
