I decided to do a trial run with Finn living in an xpen instead of a cage. The cage in front of the hedgehog cage was a hassle, and I felt badly with him being cooped up while I was at school.

(the set up)
The first night didn’t go so well. He figured out that if he rattled the bars enough he could pull the pen loose from the edge and escape. The next day I moved the pen so he could have access to the porch while I was gone. I’ve been doing this for a couple of days, but this time when I came home either him or the cats had moved the pen so he could wiggle his way through and have access to the house. I found him our bedroom (a no-no zone), flopped out behind a chair.

(The sheet is to deter him from chewing the bars to move the pen. You can see the sliver of open porch door, and the x-pen leading out)
Tonight we went out for dinner. I put Finn in his pen, gave him his salad and pellets, and we went on our way. We came home to him flopped out OUTSIDE of his pen. The corners were totally intact. I’m pretty sure the brat jumped it. AND he thumped when we tried to put him back for the evening.
We’ll see what tomorrow morning brings. Hopefully not a lot of chewed cords
