Hi!! I posted earlier – (bonding a male and female) – Thanks for the replies!

I thought I’d make a new topic since I’m posting the videos I mentioned.  I know I have to get my Charlie spayed – I plan on doing it within the next month – I’m calling for the appointment tomorrow – it was just a matter of money really – it’s like 200 dollars here – () — so some saving was required!!  Anyway, we’ve had 4 get-togethers in the past 2 days – of about 15 minutes each – I’m posting a couple videos – one is the FIRST meeting in our living room – (it’s amusing that you can hear Golden Girls in the background..  – I love that show!! ) and the 2nd is the one in the bathtub (upon reading up on it – we read about the neutral ground) it’s kind of amusing to hear the reactions of our kids and even me – I was shocked at first!! I wasn’t expecting that at all!! it seems so aggressive!! And I was worried about my sweet Charlie Barlie…  ALSO, I didn’t know about face humping – he does that in the first video – and again I read that it’s not good since she could bite his “privates” – so in the 2nd when he goes for her face my fiancé moves him away from her face… After today’s visit (the third) we did the bathtub again – and the photo at the bottom is of them after a humping session..

So, If anyone has thoughts?? Could you let me know if you think these visits went well overall?? Do you think they’ll get along?? I’m very interested in hearing everyone’s thoughts!! Thanks!!

        1st meeting:

        2nd meeting:

        then afterwords…

So sweet… and all those pellets are Charlie’s.. Penny doesn’t seem to poop anywhere but her cage!! YAY!!

Haha oh the humping video — your kids are so concerned! Humping is a good sign. I would let mine hump for about 30 seconds and then lightly push the humper off. I let them know its okay to hump, but not excessively because the one getting humped could get angry and bite the other. Looks like they are getting along very well, but definitely get her spayed ASAP. Next time, you might want to wear a pair of gloves just incase a fight does break out.
Also, is one of them atleast fixed??

Hahahahah! I have to say — the video commentary is HYSTERICAL.

First off, at least one of them NEEDS to be fixed before any bonding takes place. I think I heard in the first one that one of them is done but not the other? Spaying/neutering can also take away any bond you may build up before the spay/neuter so be prepared to do bonding afterwards also. I wouldn’t suggest putting them together completely until both are done.

Their bonding visits went VERY well, I must say! Humping is a very big part of dominance whether male or female does it. I’m confused about who is the boy and who is the girl though, could you clarify? And I’m assuming the new bunny is the white bun? Anywho, face humping is a no-no because of injuries so if you see this just lightly push them off the other. It seems pretty guaranteed that your white bunny is the “top bun” and the broken colored one is the submissive bun which is perfect since the broken doesn’t seem to dislike this set-up since they aren’t being aggressive about the other being dominant.

I would keep up with these small bonding sessions (as long as one is altered) until the neuter/spay and then begin redoing this as soon as the bun has healed. We were able to put our three buns together full-time after they had healed. None had lost the bonding but sometimes because they come home from the spay smelling different it can affect the bond a bit and require starting over.

Also, rather than a pair of gloves — I would suggest having a spray bottle on hand in case a fight does break out. So you can spray them both with the bottle quickly and catch their attention long enough to separate. You really shouldn’t ever put your hands in between two fighting bunnies, gloved or not. Unless you plan on having some bites.

I’m happy that their bonding process seems to be going well!

BUT, it’s not advisable to do a bonding session in the living room like in your first video. If they started fighting and got behind some furniture, they could injure each other severely before you would be able to even get to them. Keep it in the bathtub (with the bathroom door closed), or something like an x-pen, where you have control of the situation, should anything happen.

Also, like tanlover said, if both of them aren’t fixed, stop bonding ASAP to avoid an unexpected litter. Ideally they should both be fixed before bonding starts.

                Good luck!

Hi!! thanks for the replies so far!! I’m glad to hear it’s looking good so far for the bonding.. And YES the white bunny is a male – and YES he is neutered.. – we just got him for my daughter’s birthday next week from the humane society – so he’s all good and healthy!..

I am planning on getting the female spayed probably within the next month – it was just a matter of money -so some  saving was required.. she is the only one who seems to have a problem being around the other – the white bun is REALLY into her – it was he in the photos that wanted to just lay beside her afterwords..   She tolerates him for a bit – but then seems to get annoyed – like “enough already ok??” LOL – so hopefully this will subside after the spay..

Yes – I still laugh when I hear the commentary – my fiancé was getting all agitated at the kids and me freaking out about the mounting – ‘it’s the dominance thing people…” –  anyway, hope you liked the videos!! thanks again for the comments!! LOVE To hear what people think!

*also to the person who asked about who was the boy or girl – the white bun is the male – he’s the new one – he’s about a year and 4 months..  his name is PENNY – I know – weird eh? I am going to call him BIG PEN – so at least part of the name is in there.. LOL – and my daughter calls him Penny apple now – I think you can hear her say that in the tub video.. The girl bunny is the lop eared one and she is mine that I got from the petstore – she’s probably about 6 months or so – and I named her Charlie – cus of the little moustache – like Charlie Chaplin..

Hahah! Great – I got it now. I was a little confused because I was thinking Penny was the girls name and Charlie the boys! But then I got confused when everyone was soooooo worried about Charlie! Because I remembered everyone saying the boy was the one humping… now it makes sense though! As you can tell, everyone on this site is all about spaying/neutering right away for many reasons. I’ve watched some people on these forums have to deal with Oops litters and it was always painful for them, especially when having to adopt out the babies. And because the rabbit population is soo large so hopefully you didn’t take any offense to us asking! We all just see it as very important on this site!

I’m sure it will most likely subside after the spay (I know my girl was the same way with my boys before her spay). But even if it doesn’t, the bonding process still seems to be going very well and has a lot of potential. My girl is independent half the time and while the boys are ALWAYS cuddling she is sometimes off doing her own thing while others she’s cuddled up right next to them. She may just have a personality similar to my girl where she is independent and only likes to cuddle when SHE wants too! Hahaha. Typical female. If you have any more questions while going through the bonding process, I’ll gladly help out as best as I can. And I’m sure others will chirp in more also!
