I had a rabbit whose breed was unknown, but was most likely a French lop. She was around 7-8 lbs, so she ate lots of hay (more than my smaller rabbit), 1/3 cup of pellets, and around 1 1/2-2 cups of veggies. I don’t like classifying breeds by personality, but I have heard that lops are very gentle, and that was true. She was also a medium to large rabbit, so she was much more calm. She lived in a pen, and so does my rabbit now, but it’s fine to keep a rabbit in a cage as long as they get plenty of time outside to play. We eventually let her have the run of the room, but she still had her pen to go to. When we first got her we were told she was probably around 2.5-3 years old, but meeting up with the shelter again, we learned that she was probably older, around 4-6 years old. She passed from either GI stasis or renal failure, on Dec 24, so she was a somewhat older rabbit, but she would have lived a few more years. I hope this helped
. I’ve also heard that larger rabbits tend to need less space than smaller rabbits because they’re calmer. Smaller rabbits, like dwarfs, tend to need more space to run around, so though I’m not 100% sure this is correct, if it’s a calm, mellow rabbit, you’ll probably need less space than a smaller, more energetic rabbit. Another thing: lops are usually more prone to ear infections and overheating, because rabbits use their ears to regulate temperatures and cool themselves off. To me, it doesn’t matter what breed a rabbit is, as long as you love them, as they have wonderful personalities.
