So we had a lot of friends round last night to celebrate new years eve. Because it was going to be noisy and crowded we decided to put merlin upstairs in our bedroom for the night so he wouldn’t get too freaked out. Also when we have people round and he thinks we’re ignoring him he will totally dismantle everything in his hutch and chew the bars etc. I had bought one of those ‘indoor cages’ (with the plastic bottom and wire top) ready for when we get a girlfriend for him, so we set that up for him for a few hours.
We put everything from his regular hutch into the temporary cage so it would still smell like him etc, I even didn’t clean his litter tray so it would smell the same, hoping it would make the move as stress free as possible. Everything seemed fine when I checked on him periodically throughout the night. When we came to move back to his regular hutch after everyone had gone home I noticed a clump of uneaten cecal pellets. I didn’t worry too much as it was just the one.
I’ve been home all day today, but noticed he’s been asleep in his litter tray all morning. He never sleeps in his litter tray, he always sleeps upstairs in his hutch all flopped out, but he was flopped in the tray, he was just all curled up. He’s eaten his breakfast pellet and veg just fine, and is responsive and seems his normal self when I go to see him. I’ve let him out for a run around and he’s totally normal, but I noticed a couple of poo stains on his feet, like hes had runny poo and sat in it, or maybe it’s more uneaten cecal pellets?
Could this be just from the stress of last night? Or should I be worried? As I write this he’s happily munching on some hay and doesn’t seem at all unwell.
Advice and opinions much appreciated!
