I am having the exact same problem. I’m kind of worried. So far, I have been able to tempt my baby bun with alfalfa hay. I know it’s really high in protein and calcium, but I think some roughage is better than no roughage at all. I try to give him more of the stalks than anything else.

Totally alfalfa is hay too and fine to give especially to young bunnies mix some in with other hays to entice. You can also add a flower mix (like that sold on this site) to encourage eating. Adding less hay more often will make it seem like a limited resource, and is often a successful way to excite them about eating it. And lastly yes you can reduce pellets

Oh and he also seems more inclined to eat hay if I put a great bunch of it in his litter box.

The only hay my picky buns will eat is the Sierra Valley Sunset Sweetness. I would give alfalfa since he is so young.

I wouldn’t do the alfalfa – it’s not really a grass hay and he is getting alfalfa pellets anyway isn’t he?

I think I would decrease the veggies a bit and see if that helps.

I would suggest just trying a different hay. My buns are picky and REFUSE to eat timothy hay. They literally go on strike when it goes in the hay bin. Orchard Grass and Oat Hay is a big favorite in my house!
