OMFG well i got her a boyfriend (not housed together till desexing but thought having them close side by side in cages as a young age would help with bonding well phoebe isnt a girl and i brought another boy as mix pairs are best i cant believe a breeder got the sex wrong and for my vet knew i got her/him from a breeder she trust the sex of it so didnt bother looking for her general health check now i am left with two male bunnies that probably wont bond as that is rare as also as phoebe is a flemish i got a lop rabbit thinking surely he wouldnt hurt her/him if he was still manly after desexing as i read size doesnt matter its the bunny so i was about to get different breeds so got my favs a flemish giant and a lop well no i have two boys i am so mad i wish my state had rescues but in Australia its so rare to come across rescues in the other states
NOW I NEED A NEW NAME
A PLAN TO AT LEAST BE ABLE TO HOUSE THEM IN THE SAME ROOM (HOPEFULLY SIDE BY SIDE BOTH GETTING THE SNIP ASAP)
BUY PHOEBE BLUE THINGS AS PINK FOR A GIRL NO
        FIND PHOEBE A NEW NAME
        NAME THE NEW BUNNY
AND HOPE MAYBE I AM ABLE TO BOND THEM (I DONT THINK SO MALES? HHMM PHOEBE LIKES GUINEA PIGS AND THE KITTEN I MIGHT GET LUCKY)

anyway the new bun is a lop white (maybe point) 10week old buck with i think blue eyes ill have a better look once settle in (deff a boy) he will have his vaccines at 12weeks and once he is ready for the snip will join my flemish being no longer a man hehe. i would need tones of advice and support through this as i cried for hours as i planned to have a fat girl flemish and a lop that was grumpy looking (whites look that way to me) that had to groom a massive wife i didnt want two males but no returns and well no one is breeding my bunnies no matter if boys dont get as affect!!

There’s quite a few rescue shelters here, you just have to know where to find them. I’m in WA but helped a friend who works in the RSPCA Gympie QLD relocate a bun to a shelter in Grafton NSW. Beatrix is currently in transit via Wacol. What state are you in.

I’ll have a look and see what shelters are in your area. I know of about 3 in SA just not the exact local.
Boys will bond, Tanlover has a trio, two of which are boys and I know there are several other members with bonded male pairs. So really the chances are good and as it is you could have had a mixed pair and still not achieved a bond. Once they are done start the bonding process things might go just fine without any problems.

Hi, not to panic. Boy bunnies bond all the time. It’s not nearly as difficult as you imagine, especially once they are neutered. They just work out who is dominant (so don’t worry when they start humping – it’s not for sex.) Follow slow and steady bonding procedures, which is described in our info. section and our bonding forum for good tips on how, and they will probably become friends within a couple of months at most.

Pardon me if this was mentioned to you already, but we do not allow discussions of breeding on this website. It’s stated at the top. So if you’re mad because you can’t breed your bunnies, well, that’s a discussion for a different website altogether. For now, I think you are not nearly as badly off as you suppose, and they may be very happy with each other and you for years to come. Put in the initial bonding work now, and it will soon be better. They do both need the neuter to keep those aggressive hormones in check.

It’s generally easier to bond than two (neutered) males than two females, so if they had to be mis-sexed, you lucked out with two boys! Calm down, get them neutered, and then start your bonding. It should be fine!

I have a bonded pair of males. Bonding them was a dream and they snuggle all the time. It has more to do with personality than with sex.

Follow Bekas & RP’s advice and you will be fine.

                          Hi Megan,
I’m in SA also and you can get rescued rabbits here.

I know its probably been a shock… but look on the bright side, at least it is cheaper to desex male rabbits.
You could always change the name to VB . It sounds like phoebe but is more masculine. j/k

ETA: you said you didn’t have the vet check the sex at the initial visit. So Phoebes testicles descended? This is how you’ve discovered “she” is in fact a male?

Hi! Bonding has much more to do with the bunnies personalities and your persistence than gender I bonded my 2 girls, a flemmie and a lionhead, and it was a challenge but worth it! I have a bonding journal in the Bonding section

And we also thought our lionhead was a boy and named her Samson, found out she was a girl and just shortened it to Sam They don’t care

next lot will deff come from resuces than

and no still no balls in phoebe (now PB (peanut butter lol) but what a gross willy i saw, however which means i cannot get him desex till they have dropped the lops i can see the balls is that normal for a 10week old lop does that mean i could get them desex at the same time or still need to wait for the bunny to be at a certain age

My boys love each other. They are the best of buddies, getting into mischief together and whatnot.

Boys can be neutered at ~4 months. But you say Pheobe doesn’t have anything down there? How old is he? Both boys and girls “pop out” when you push down there.

I have to completely disagree with the argument that boys are harder to bond. With my trio, it was actually the girl who was the problem! The boys LOVED her AND each other! My boys were inseparable from the start. It took about 5 minutes of one bonding session before they were cuddling and grooming each other. I still cannot get them apart. They are absolutely head over heels for each other and spend the whole day following each other around and getting into trouble together while my girl is actually the independent one who wasn’t very submissive to my “top bun” who is one of the boys.

It’s all about personality when bonding. So don’t feel so heartsick about having two boys! My boys are GREAT and it went so well when we decided to attempt to bond the two others with another boy. I had also heard these rumors of how hard it is to bond two boys but from experience Ive definitely become a firm believer that is ALL about personality!

I already used you as an example how to boys can be bonded

well my bunnies will stay in different pens till bonded and wont get floor time together however when one is in the cage/pen and the other out they can sniff each other and see each other so they will get to know each other. um PB (phoebe now peanut butter) balls havent dropped he is 16weeks and 4day old and is a flemish giant however he isnt afraid to show his little fella lol

my new bunny is 10weeks old atm but i see his balls he is a dwarf lop

It’s not unusual for your lop to have them already at 10wks.

I *think* large breed bunnies develop over longer time period so maybe that’s why PB’s haven’t appeared yet?
                                        Good choice on the name!

well my vet said i am able to wait till 6months for the flemish as they generally take that time to drop but i can get my lop done at 4months so hopefully i am able to get them done together (it will be cheaper) and that also means bonding can start once both are good and ready

I’m so glad you’re keeping (and bonding) them both! From the sound of the first message, I was worried that you weren’t going to keep the little guy just because he wasn’t a girl. And your vet is about right — it usually takes longer for Flemmies to drop!

So lucky — a Flemmie AND a lop! Ahhhhhhhhhh. That’s going to be an INSANELY cute little (or should I say big?) pair!
