Hey all,
Yup, been away for a while again, and probably will disappear once more. But I had to share you this. Apparently, I forgot to feed my bunnies last night. They get pellets early in the morning and an hour before bed. I know, forgetting was, VERY bad. Things have been hectic and, well, it just happened. I went in this morning to give them their morning food and the site I saw got me a little nervous.
I have often joked about Maryann being a super intelligent bunny. One that plotted my demise, carried a gun, etc. Well let me lay out the scene for you. When I feed my rabbits, I take a ‘handful’ of food and dump it into a mini food trough. This has the benefit of quick feeding without having to open the cage up. However, when I do this, a little of the food clings to my hand and often falls outside of the trough and onto the floor. Usually when I let my bunnies out to play, they get an extra treat by hopping over there and cleaning up my mess.
Well when I walked into the room today, there was a long piece of willow, a tongue depressor and a half chewn bath tissue roll (which is bigger than the grid of the cage) pushed through the cage and lying strewn upon the litter of food outside. I blinked, since these items were normally on the other side of the cage and they never play with them. I leave them in there ‘just in case’ but now they were outside. At first I thought it was some sort of protest but usually when they have a major fit, they upend the litter box. Then I realized what it was.
They were using tools!
They were using these long items in an attempt to pull the food towards the cage. Now, granted, I feel very VERY bad that they were hungry for the night. But now I’m very VERY scared. My rabbits… can… use… tools.
