Can you tell the difference between a holland lop and mini lop at 8 weeks of age?

  or is the rabbit too young to decipher what breed it is? i know they are very similar but just wondering! my rabbit was said to be a female holland lop 8 weeks old, but her fur isnt fluffy like other holland lops, granted she isnt show quality so that could be it!

  You cannot tell a breed by a baby photo either – also the fur for a holland lop isn’t what makes them a holland lop.

  Holland and mini lop fur are basically the same. I have one of each and their fur texture is slightly different, but there isn’t a difference across all members of the breed. It would be pretty much impossible to tell until the bun was older. Non-show quality hollands can look very much like mini lops, so the only way to tell is by weight.

  She’s definitely not a purebred holland lop. Their faces are more “squishy” and flat even when they are babies. She’s probably a mix of the 2.

  ah i suppose! she isnt even close to being show quality though! oh well, my other rabbit, whom ive adopted, looks to be a mix because his face isnt flat at all. its not super pointy but hes got an obvious “cone” shaped head, compared with an actual holland lop that has a squished face, i was told he was a holland lop when i adopted him and he is around 4lbs but i did adopt him from a rescue so he most likely is a mix, doesnt bother me in the least but you know i would like to know

  I’m gonna guess either Mini or Mini/Holland cross. It’ll be easier to tell once she’s full grown and you know her weight.. that’s the main difference. Definitely I don’t think she’s 100% Holland though, as others said they have VERY flat faces. Look up Cheddar and Poopy on here, they are Hollands and you can really see the difference.

  Personally, I think her face looks like a holland, but it’s so tough to tell at that age. Definitely keep us updated on how big she gets and that will help narrow it down.

  I did email the breeder, and she said she doesn’t breed mix rabbits and said that she is a purebred but is not show quality, she sent me a picture of the mom and dad who are not show quality (quite obvious!) but she is 1 pound and 10.5 oz, according to the vet! I did take her today and turns out she DOES have mites, but its very very mild, and the vet was looking for around 5 minutes and finally found one. So they gave her some ivermectin and I am going back on the 21st for another treatment, on the third week we will see if she needs another treatment since she is so small and the mites are so mild. But we don’t know if she has MITES? A skin scrape test would have been able to tell but we didn’t do that just yet. I will most likely be taking my older rabbit to the vet as well to check if he has mites. They also gave me a fecal kit for my baby bunny to see if there are any internal parasites in her. But other than that, everything is perfect!

  Well, it sounds like she only has a mild case of mites so hopefully that will be cleared up asap.

  Hopefully, I’m glad the vet was able to spot something moving in her fur NOW (even though it was hard to find something), rather than later when it would have been super obvious.

  Oh you should let the breeder know that she has a mite infestation. She may already know, but hopefully not.

  Aw thanks! I was thinking of it, but she is kind of aloof? and not very friendly, I was thinking of telling her, but I don’t want her to think that I am “accusing” her of anything or hinting that she is irresponsible. Or anything

  I agree! And all I have is her email, but she does respond back very quickly. Oh well I’m not sure. Might as well leave it, hopefully she already knows – which if that is the case, is disappointing because she failed to tell me so
