  This is really confusing me. So I have a very well-trained, well-behaved (until now) bunny. My Manhattan apartment is wayyy too small to fit a cage for her. She’s a pretty massive bunny (but the apt has a roof deck where she can run around!) so she has free range of my bedroom 24/7 and she gets huge amounts of attention. This setup has been great for the past 3 years, and I’ve had her for almost 6.
  
  Now she has started wetting the bed while I’m asleep (!) sometimes right next to me. Cleaning the mattress pad every morning has become a serious chore. She has done this every night for the past 5 nights in a row. I can’t wrap my mind around why this would start all of a sudden. This is just very uncharacteristic of her.
  
  Is there anything at all that I can do to convince her to stop peeing next to me while I’m asleep? Blocking off the bed would be really inconvenient. (it’s a tiny apartment) Plus she often likes to chill with me while I’m reading, etc. So very very frustrating and unpleasant.

  she could be ill some times when a bunny is stressed, ill or just not right the toilet habits could change

  Hi Eli, a lot of people have trouble getting their rabbits to stop peeing on their bed, but when they are starting all of a sudden there might be some sort of infection or stressor that could be causing it. Is she acting normal otherwise? It may be a good idea to take her to a vet just to make sure that there is nothing going on. Otherwise, have there been any changes in the area lately? Ruby will get really stressed out if there is construction nearby – but I live in a really quiet neighbourhood so it may be different living in a bigger city, I would think she’d be used to noise after 6 years.
  
  Also, what are you cleaning with? If what you’re cleaning with has ammonia in it it’s definitely going to make her want to mark there again.

  That’s the thing that is really bizarre. I haven’t noticed any other changes in behavior at all, and nothing to indicate she is ill either. She only does it while I’m asleep. It’s almost like there’s some poltergeist doing it! She must be responding to something she doesn’t like, I’m just not sure what. I noticed she hasn’t been coming up on the bed to snuggle last couple nights. Maybe I’ll try giving her more attention right before bedtime and see if that has any effect.
  
  It can be so hard trying to figure out what’s going on inside that fuzzy head.
  
  I’ve been using Nature’s Miracle to get out the urine stain. Is that bad?

  Hi Eli,
  First is she spayed? Rabbits behavior is very unpredictable when their hormones control them.
  Second, has she had a vet check recently. Potty accidents don’t usually happen. Usually it is the cause of something. She could be marking you or she could have a UTI or another health problem that needs treating. My guess is the second since you’ve had her so long and it just started. Females also have a high risk of cancer if unfixed.
  My recommendation is a vet visit to a rabbit savvy vet to rule out illness over behavior.
  
  Oh and miracle’s nature if just fine. Vinegar/water solution mix will also help with any odors.

  When Powder began doing that it was because my boyfriend who slept in the floor had blocked his route to the litter box. So he would jump down, see he couldn’t get by, then jump up and pee on the bed instead. (brat) The other trigger for him was a scent change, when someone else had touched the sheets, he started marking it until I washed them.

  I was going to say this. If there has been someone in your room it could be a territorial thing and she is marking it.

  Maybe you’ve been snoring haha joking! I remember Ruby did that with my mom once on the couch, we assumed it was to wake her up to get some loves. Maybe the attention before sleeping will help.

  It’s interesting she is being so consistent about it. 5 times in a row and when you’re asleep. Is it still happening?
  
  I wonder if she’s hearing new noises from a neighbour or something?
