  My bunny Lola had her spay almost 2 weeks ago now, but has still not returned to her normal self.
  
  She had to spend 4 days in the vets after the spay as she wasn’t eating or pooping – when she finally did, they sent her home with some medicine to help her ‘keep regular’. She was very good at taking her medicine, and we completed the course. The vets are happy with how the wound is healing – so no need to go back to the vets.
  
  However, she still doesn’t seem completely back to her normal self.
  
  Normal being: she would eat all the dried rabbit food each day in her bowl (1/2 cup) and any veggies put down. She’s eating some of the veggies, but not all the rabbit food. She would also come straight out when the cage is opened up for free-time in the living room (bunny proofed) but she comes out for a little hop around, then retreats back into her cage.
  
  Is this normal for a rabbit that has been spayed? How long will it be before she’s back to ‘normal’? Should I be worrying about her?

  Some females actually change in their habits once they’ve been spayed. Ruby was pretty normal after about 3 days of being home BUT she wasn’t subjected to the stress of being away from home in a noisy vet office for 4 days either – that can be really stressful for a rabbit and may have made her healing slow down. Even if your rabbit isn’t eating/pooping (of course, still treat them) it’s better for them to be treated at home with visits to the vet every 1 1/2 to 2 weeks.
  
  You may want to find a vet that will not tell you to keep her at the vet overnight, most rabbit savvy vets will always recommend treatment and healing at home.

  I think 1/2 cup of dried (healthy, plain pellets I assume) is a bit too much now. Cut it back to 1/4 cup. Be sure to give her unlimited hay day and night, so she turns to that instead of pellets, and continue her greens as usual. Plenty of water, too. She may just be filling up on the more fattening pellets and needs the boost to her GI tract that the hay will give her.
  
  She has been through a long time away from home, with the problem of recovery from a procedure that is an internal surgery with complications. A perfect spay involves several days of full recovery, followed by hormonal changes until they settle down for good – over a month. So she just may not be totally recovered. Keep an eye on her and feel free to call your vet if she worsens at all. Something else may have been the problem, unrelated but discovered at the time of the spay, so you want to be sure she’s on the mend.
  
  Just give her lots of quiet time with you, pets, and play if she wants it, and let her get used to being home with you again.

  Poor little girl. That must have been very stressful to spend so much time at the vets. I agree with Pam, keep a close eye on her and call your vet is she shows any more changes.
