  15 minutes before I had to get dressed to go to work, I went to check up on Chacha. She was fiercely scratching her right ear, she would shake her head, and the ear would be pinned back. She was also acting a bit cranky and off.
  
  Chacha has a history of ear infections. But today, something seemed quite off.
  
  The Mister and I took Chacha to the ER vet in another city. She has external media – an outer ear infection. She has ear wax and a little discharge. The ER vet prescribed Chacha animax drops for 7 days and for her to see the regular vet.
  
  My question is: Is Animax safe for bunnies? I have looked online and it says that it is good for dogs and cats. I didn’t get an exactly clear answer on that. There was also not an exotic ER vet at the clinic, but the vet appeared to be pretty knowledgeable about rabbits. From the research that I have done and what the vet told me, Animax destroys fungus, and evil bacteria. It is classified as a corticosteriod.
  
  I am thinking of phoning Chacha’s vet tomorrow and consulting about the medication before I give a second dose. For now, I decided to post this to see if anyone is familiar with it and giving it to rabbits.
  
  The Queen is relaxing and is happy to be at home. I was such an emotional mess when I called into my job that I feel ashamed to face the managers tomorrow! If I am this emotional over Chacha, what would happen when I have a human child?! LOL!

  I’m not familiar either. Is this the stuff? I can only find an ointment or cream online but the ointment is drops? And those seem to be a combo if medications in the one product.

  Contacting your vet is tomorrow is way to go.
  Also, LPT might know something about it. She’s dealt with a lot if ear infections for Bindi.

  You had me very worried before. I was thinking “Oh No, Not Chacha” Much relieved it was something treatable.
  
  I wouldn’t worry about being frantic, it’s only normal as to how you’d be with a human child… Probably less stressed as they can generally tell you what the problem is plus there is always someone about who knows what to do with them, unlike buns !!

  For what it’s worth, I did find it mentioned in search results of another rabbit forum. The poster said “reason my vet chose this is he said it was approved for use in rabbits”. That was in 2008.
  It’s also come up couple times in a search results on BB.
  
  But go with your instinct in getting the green light from the vet you know and trust. That way you can check the dosage with her also.

  I just wanted to say I hope Chacha makes a speedy recovery. Don’t worry about work, we have called out or left early just to take the bunbaby for a well check, so Giant probably hates us.

  I’ve never hear of that med before. I would ask your rabbit vet. Better to be sure. I know that my vet is very wary of prescribing corticosteroids for bunnies.
  
  Have you ever done a culture of her ears?

  The regular vet office called me as soon as they opened, and the receptionist will pass my questions onto the vet and she will call me back before they close tonight. I told the receptionist that the vet can leave a message with her answers as I will be working tonight. In the meantime, the receptionist will be contacting the emergency vet that I went to (and they are familiar with each other) get the paperwork and information on Chacha. The vet will also look over it. Chacha Grandpa is off today and tomorrow so as usual, he will be watching over her as I work today.
  
  I made a follow up appointment and Chacha will see Dr. S on 11/14.
  
  In the meantime, Chacha is happily relaxing under new spots she discovered in the living room. I walked into the living room and she was underneath another chair, flopped out with her chin to the floor.

  Glad you got in touch with your regular vet and that ChaCha is being treated. I wouldn’t expect a vet to prescribe something harmful to her, but sometimes a dog/cat vet isn’t up on the latest, better meds for bunnies.

  Chacha’s vet called me while I was at work and left a message. She said that the ointment for her ear is fine.
  
  I administered the 4th dose of it this afternoon and she scratched her ear after! I bet she is thinking, “WHAT IS THIS THING IN MY EAR?!?!”
  
  I honestly hope that after this, there will be no more ear issues My poor girl. She is so mad at me for picking her up twice a day for medication.
