  I live around horses so there are a fair amount of flies outside (not my horses, neighbors). Problem is now that it’s getting colder, they are finding their way inside and of course crowding around the bunny litter boxes (since the house is warm). I’m cleaning them more often, but I despise having flies in the house! I have sticky fly traps up in the bunny room, but I can’t place them in any other area of the house due to my bird – he would fly into them and I don’t want a sticky bird trap.
  
  Are there any other effective fly traps that don’t pose a risk to a flighted parrot? Every thing in the store here is sticky paper, which is out of the question in 90% of the house. But I want them out due to both potential risk of fly strike and because they are just annoying little pests that drive me bonkers. Prefer traps because I am not as fast as flies to catch them, they always fly away before I get anywhere near them.

  I’m not sure if this will work for house flies, but I had a problem with fruit flies last year in the summer and early fall. I heard that they can’t fly straight up so I tried putting a bottle with some sweet fruits at the bottom (not sure what you’d put for a regular fly…) with a paper rolled at the top like a cone with the wide end sticking up. They’d fly in to the bottle from the wide part but couldn’t find their way out the small hole afterwards. Maybe this can help with house flies as well, it’s worth a shot to keep them away from the rabbits – and keep your bird clean!

  Honey in the bottom of a bottle could work like that to. Less smell from the fruit, and sticky too, so flies would get stuck.

  Could you use the sticky traps but place them in a big jar? So your bird doesn’t fly into it?

  You should probably use a jar like Jersey Girl said, a bottle neck might be too small for them to try.

  You could go after them manually, using a squirter bottle and then crushing them that’s what i do(i also use fly tape) that seems to do the job.

  In the summer my camp puts these out in their horse barns to keep the flies away! I think they would work inside too!
