  Hi all,
  
  I have a 4 year old neutered rabbit who is litter box trained. He for the most part always poops/pees in his box without any problems, but recently he has peed twice in his cage, outside of his litter box. He’s also peed outside, when he’s roaming a couple times. Usually if he’s out for a bit, I’ll put him back in his cage and he’ll pee as soon as he’s inside so I assume he just forgets to pee when he’s outside, but why is he peeing in his cage?

  Have you taken him to the vet lately? Sometimes loss of litter habits can be a sign of something wrong. Or maybe the box is just too small and he misses?

  I agree with Sam and Lady, often peeing outside the litterbox is the first sign of a urinary or bladder problem.

  First step is a vet visit. A sudden loss of habits may indicate a health problem.
  
  A few questions:
  Does he have a litterbox outside the cage?
  What kind of cage is it, can he jump in and out on his own?
  What is the cage flooring made out of?
  Any changes to his cage/litterbox or the house environment?
  How has his mobility been, does he seem to have a hard time jumping in and out of the cage or litterbox?

  he has no litter box outside his cage, but it’s just a large regular cage with a plastic bottom and a ramp that he can easily get in and out of. i got him a new litter box last week. he seems totally normal, no changes in behavior and no mobility issues.
  
  and it happened once like last month and once a couple days ago so it’s not a constant thing but i was just curious. also, i moved last month but his cage and litter box were the same up until last week when i changed his litter box.

  Well I am having the same problem with Edson but Edson I think is making a statement. He is about 5 and has always used the litter box perfectly. He used to have free range of the house until he started chewing baseboards and legs of furniture so now he is confined to the office. Now he has started peeing and pooping tons by the gate to the office. He only does this in the morning when we are there. I really think he is protesting to get outta of that room! I often let him out but watch him carefully and then back in the office he goes flicking his feet at me. So what do you do with a protesting bunny? I really hate to put another litter box by the door.

  I’ve only had my bunny a week but from the start he always went in his litter box (I didn’t even have to train him) until 2 days ago, when he peed against the kitchen door. He is allowed everywhere in the house except the kitchen, so I assumed he had realised that was the end of his territory and had peed there to mark it. Today I went out and left his hutch open but the bedroom door closed, so that he had the run of one room. When I came back, he had peed against the bedroom door. I do think it’s territorial.
  
  But my bunny isn’t neutered yet, and I think he is just starting sexual maturity and has more of an urge to mark than he did when he first got here. I’m confident that when he’s neutered this marking will stop, and if it doesn’t I’ll just have to re-train him the habits he seems to have forgot.

  OMG Thumper was a terror before he was fixed.He seriously ruined my walls with his spraying. There goes that security deposit
