  My neutered, mature Holland Lop has recently taken to peeing all over my house. He lived indoors with us when we were apartment dwellers, but when we moved to our townhome, he couldn’t get around on our primarily wood floors, so he’s been mostly living in our enclosed patio for the last two years.
  
  This spring, our HOA decided to start some construction, which meant I’d have to bring him inside on some days, from 8-5. He clearly didn’t enjoy seeing workers coming in and out of his zone. I’d often see him gazing out the window, and hear him stomping when ladders and scaffolding were present. He definitely knows when 5:00 rolls around, and will wait at the door to be let out!
  
  Now, he has some sort of ulcer on his eye, possibly due to all the dust and detritus left by the construction, and a poo/pee problem.
  
  He relieves himself everywhere but in his litterbox, and with his wet bottom problem, the vet has required him to stay indoors to avoid flies and maggots.
  
  He obviously wants to move back to the patio, but seems to also want to establish himself all over my floor! WhaddoIdo!??

  Has the vet checked to make sure he isn’t sick or have any back/leg problems, preventing him from making it to the box on time or jumping in?
  Is he pooing and eating the same as he had previously? Construction can be very stressful for a buns.

  Well, it sounds as if his eye is bothering him along with the we bottom problem and the chaos around him. What did the vet give him for the eye and did the vet check for a urinary tract infection?
  
  I think you should ensure he feels better due to his eye and urinary problem first and foremost.
  
  It’s totally understandable he is having issues so making him more comfortable is the best thing you can do for him. You can retrain him once the construction is done and his medical problems are resolved. Hope he gets better soon.

  I think between the eye and the upset to his routine and ‘personal space’ this is only to be expected. If it’s a big deal to you-i.e. if he’s ruining your floors with his urine, use puppy pads to protect your floor or lay down something waterproof, like a shower curtain with a carpet remnant on top-to protect your floor and do what you can to minimize the noise/disruption for him, and maybe try to minimize the area he gets. Often a smaller area will force them to choose one spot to ‘go’ and then you can put the litter pan there.
  
  Now all of this, is given of course that your vet knows he’s peeing out of the litter box and that it’s not par for the course, so that your vet has ruled out any UTI or other infection that could be causing it.

  Thankfully, the construction is over and we’ve moved Dude back to his normal zone. The vet gave us drops that are helping to heal his eye, but his hind leg is still giving him problems, mainly because of his lack of movement. When he’s more active, there’s much less leg dragging. We got him a new litter pan that’s easier for him to get in and out of, but he’s still pooping and peeing everywhere else.
  In fact, about an hour ago, he’d been sitting in the litterbox, hopped out and immediately peed in his cage!

  Oh, btw, the vet gave him a good health report; the eye being his only treatable physical issue. She gave him some pain meds as well. It’s time for refills on both the eye drops and he may be having leg pain now, so the pain drops, too.

  Yesterday, we awoke to a sad sight. Dude wouldn’t move. He looked as though he’d fallen asleep and relieved himself in the process.
  
  The day before, he had returned to his old self, he hopped into the kitchen while I was making breakfast and waited for me to give him sime cilantro…or open the fridge! But, yesterday, he wouldn’t do much at all. Because his poop & pee were all over him, I gave him a bath and tried to keep him comfortable. But, when we got home last night, we found our little guy had crossed the bridge.

  I am so very sorry to hear about Dude’s passing. My sympathies to your family.
  
  If you would like to start a thread in the Rainbow Bridge section, more people will probably see this thread and will be able to offer their condolences.
