Hi, everyone. First I want to say that the x-pen my bunnies actually live in is the best in my opinion and I love it especially because it is so easy to access and each individual panel can easily come apart and lock back together which makes it easy to get inside (the panels themselves act as doors which can be pulled/locked) VERY easy to use in many different ways (block-off gate etc.) and effortless to put back together again. Also, they sell add-on panels in sets of two so it is very easy to extend to any size I want. It is like x-pen heaven. Anyway, we were having a small problem because the bunnies are in the family room and so is the treadmill. The bunnies have a tremendous amount of space in their x-pen and I usually let them out to the family room/living room when I get home. However, my mom is a very active person and likes to walk on the treadmill when she gets home from work; but most of the time she can’t because the bunnies are out of their pen. The family/living room is the only area that is completely bunny-proofed and I would even trust them to be alone there for a few hours at a time (although I have never done that). My room is also completely safe for the bunnies, but my room is upstairs and getting them back downstairs again every single day would be a hassle. The other rooms are bunny-safe, but someone would have to sit there and not let the bunnies out of sight (they won’t be able to do anything else but keep their eyes on the bunnies) because one of them digs up carpet so having them go to another room is not much of an option. Moving the treadmill to another room will also not be an option. I thought of using the x-pen panels that my bunnies live in which would be easy, but I don’t think there would be enough to go around the treadmill after setting aside the panels for the extra-wide baby gate. So I bought a Midwest step-thru x-pen from Amazon because it would be easy to step in onto the treadmill and would seemingly keep the bunnies out. My idea was very bad and rendered useless because I realized that if I were to put an x-pen around the treadmill, we (humans) would not be able to access the back door etc because of the way the bunnies living area is set up. Secondly, the x-pen was delivered yesterday and it does not go all the way around our treadmill. Not even close. So now I am stuck with an x-pen that I have absolutely no use for. I guess I was spoiled with the x-pen my bunnies have, but I was very disappointed that I could not access individual panels or order add-on panels etc. Since I already opened the package, I doubt that I could return the x-pen to Amazon despite it not being used. As for selling it, the box is huge and I got free Amazon shipping and I have no idea how to go about selling/shipping things online. I thought about using the step-thru door part as a baby gate for my room’s door if the bunnies are ever in my room, but alas the panels cannot be taken apart! So if you have any ideas of what I could possibly use the $60 x-pen for, please let me know. Also, I like for my bunnies to be free to roam whenever someone is home and I do not like limiting their time for that so if you have any solutions to feasibly take care of the treadmill issue, please let me know. I appreciate all of your responses.

I would double check Amazon’s return policy. Glancing at it, they take most things back 30 days after the item is received by you, provided you have the receipt. It just says it can’t be damaged in any way, which it sounds like the pen is not. If you can’t sell it back (you’re going to have to check with your order and maybe call Amazon) then maybe you could make a second level for the buns? Or use it as a pen for outside, provided that your lawn has no pesticides and you watch them at all times for predators.

I did check Amazon’s return policy and it says unopened items only, I believe. Otherwise, it probably has to be the seller’s/handler’s fault which it’s not. I will double check, though. Do you think I could leave it outside permanently or will it be too affected by heat/humidity/rain? Also, I haven’t heard of making a second level with another x-pen; only NIC cubes. I don’t think the x-pen I have and the midwest one will fit together. Thank you for the suggestions.

Yeah, you might have to get some NIC cubes for the second floor. Didn’t think of that. I’m not sure about leaving it outside, though.

You just never know when an extra pen is going to come in handy. I’d hang onto it and spend a few days looking at your current situation and it might be possible to use it to supplement or expand another area. Also it does not necessarily have to be used for bunnies. Your parents might discover another appliaction for ir aswell and split the cost with you.

Thank you for all the suggestions. I really did not need an additional x-pen right now and fortunately, Amazon is letting me return it even after I told them it had been opened. I’m glad they have such excellent customer service. If I ever do need an additional one for any reason, I’ll be sure to just buy one again. Thanks. Now the treadmill issue is still a problem…
