So sad but I thought I’d share: http://www.nbclosangeles.com/investigations/series/get-garcia/Get-Garcia-Investigation-LA-Fashion-District-Santee-Alley-Rabbits-Bunnies-Pets-166072786.html.

AND – the SDHRS just posted “This is in Los Angeles but we have an equally serious problem here in San Diego County at pet stores and swap meets. If you see baby bunnies like this, get on your phone and call Dept of Animal Services: 619-767-2675 It’s now against the law to sell baby animals on the streets. If you find them at swap meets COMPLAIN to the swamp meet management and call or write to the city offices to complain”

I had a pretty bad experience at a pet store the other day with a little girl wanting to buy a (VERY young) bunny and her parents buying a little aquarium for it.  As a customer I decided not to go back to the pet store if they were allowing another customer to purchase one of their pets and knowingly contributing to its poor welfare. I even said something to the guy buying the bunny and the employee.  So it’s not just on the streets. So sad.

Yeah I head about this on this news. So sad. I don’t live in the L.A. or San Diego area but it definitely doesn’t surprise me that this is going on.

I remember when I was first getting into rabbits a long time ago I had bought a bunny from a pet store, it was male and I decided I wanted another bunny so I went to another pet store and bought another bunny. They told me it was male…it was not…I ended up with babies…only one lived. I was uneducated then. I kept the surviving baby but it died a couple months later of a worm infestation that we TRIED to treat but the vet did hardly anything for us. Luckily now I have an AWESOME bunny vet and am decently educated on bunny care and health.

It’s sad that people try to get away with selling baby bunnies as adult bunnies…Poor things. I am glad they are exposed I just hope people don’t buy them anymore and if they see them around will call someone to stop them!

I don’t know why the link won’t work anymore – but if you Google “Investigation: Bunny Traffickers Accused of Misleading Shoppers With Sickly Animals” it’s the first link!

I looked it up. That’s so sad! I’m not surprised it’s going on, there’s terrible things everywhere but it’s still horrible to hear about. I recently found out that my bunny was bought from a flea market for $20. She was so tiny when my boyfriend’s littler sister got her, probably only 5 weeks. And I can also relate to the little girl in the store buying an aquarium for the bunny. My boyfriend’s sister (who is 9) bought Mimzy a 10 gallon aquarium and kept her in there. I remember her calling me & being so excited about the baby bunny and I told her she needs to be in a larger cage. All she said was “But she fits, that’s why I named her Tiny”

Of course she grew to be as big as the tank was in no time.

I know I shouldn’t talk bad about her, but I don’t think young kids should have bunnies! Parents should even know better than to keep them in such a tiny unventilated thing. The things some animals have to go through, so sad

OMG That so reminds me of Baby!! I know I bought her but I concider that I rescued her from a crappy pet store and she was sooooo tiny only about a half a pound. and nothing but skin and bones. but we didn’t give up on her, we did loose her brother/sister Donna Christopher after a couple weeks. but shee has flurished thank god and such a diva I tell you. seeing this made this soldier cry…

I’m following this situation via one of my rabbit advocate groups on Facebook: Bunny World Foundation. Very sad. The way rabbits are exploited for profit is heart wrenching.
