Well, if it wouldn’t be a spectacularly huge mistake, I’d do my own binky!  LOL  I just thought I’d share cause I have posted about it in the past.

For a quick recap – I’ve been dealing with chronic back pain for a few years now.  I had decompression lumbar spine surgery in 2010 which didn’t do anything for my pain or nerve symptoms.  This past spring I went to see a new pain specialist.  He diagnosed me with neuropathy (which no other doctors have) and am now doing a trial for a nerve stimulator.  What that does is send an electric pulse to my brain which turns it into a tingling sensation in my back and legs.  This basically masks or interrupts the pain signals from my damaged nerves.

I am on day 3 of the trial which is all external except for the leads which were placed in the epidural space of my spine. The procedure site was really sore up until today.  It’s still there but has calmed down significantly.  So much so that I can tell for sure now that the stimulator is working on my “normal” back pain and nerve symptoms.  I still had to take my unisom to sleep last night but I left the stimulator on all night and I woke up with almost no normal back pain.  The procedure site is still sore at times.  I go back on Tuesday to have the components removed and will then have to wait however long for insurance to approve the permanent one which will all my internal.  Here is a site if anyone is interested.  Explains it better.  LOL

So I feel like doing a binky because for the first time in years, when I woke up, I actually felt good enough and motivated to do SOME THING.  Cleaning, walking, anything.  I’m not.  My butt is once again firmly planted on the couch.  LOL  But I’m feeling weepy cause I didn’t really think I would ever feel better again.

Lolli is doing great!  With being at my dad’s and finally getting free time to run around the finished basement, she has lost weight.  But she knows something’s up with me.  It’s either the smell from the tape and equipment or she’s sensing the electric pulse cause she will not have anything to do with me.  When she was out last night and i was on the floor, she got curious and got about a foot away with her nose going and ears all perked.  But then she hopped off.

(I am having a hard time typing what is in my brain.  I know what I want to say but it doesn’t always come out right.  So if something doesn’t make sense or I used a wrong word, that’s why.  LOL)

I’m so glad to hear this! I’d do a Binky for you but I have a terrible back myself. Lol…

My hubby has had back pain for 23 years that has caused other health issues. Thank you for posting the site, I’ll have him take a look at it.
              (((((((Hugs)))))))) for you and Lolli!

Thanks! I think I’m a little in shock that this is actually working. Cause I’ve tried almost everything else – surgery, chiropractor, physical therapy, drug therapy (neurontin), massage therapy. However, I’m having a reaction to the saran wrap like tape they used to keep the equipment secure on my back. So I’m insanely itchy. Figures I’d have to react badly to SOMETHING. LOL Oh well. I know the stimulator works. That’s all that matters!

Mimzy – I had never heard this neurostimulator until I went to this new specialist. There seems to be strict rules by the FDA regarding these. I had to go see a pain psychologist for evaluation and then do the trial external one. Both of those are required by the FDA. I was/am still nervous about all this, but I do feel better that the FDA has these requirements. And from what I gather, they are only an option as a last resort. For me, I am on neurontin but I can’t get above 400mg due to side effects. This is such a low dose that I think doctors consider it to be ineffectual. I also tried lyrica which didn’t do anything. I am allergic to opiate pain relievers such as vicodin and all those drugs. So this was my only and last option for relief.

                  Oh this is great news!
I hope it continues to be successful for you Michelle.

When I read about the Saran wrap, I immediately thought of vet wrap as an alternative. Lol. It’s cool stuff and comes in different colours too! :p

Good to hear that, I can fully understand that as I have 7 herniated disks in my back and a peice of shrapenel on my Cyatic nerve causing cyatica from Iraq. I know its tough, some days are ok and others I just want to crawl in a hole lol. I wish you the best!!
