  We’re currently building Simba a cage, it’s going to be about 4 ft by 5 ft and about 3-4 ft high, and a couple levels. What I’m curious about is a good siding to use, like would chicken wire be okay, or will that cause a problem? My dad told me I could make it as big as will fit in the backroom as long as the dog’s cages could still fit. it’d probably a bit smaller if dad is making it by himself. But yeah, anyway, I think that’s plenty big enough for at night, especially since he has free roam most of the day. But yeah, if you could think of anything else, we don’t really have that much of a budget. please and thank you, i need to know before this weekend, we’re going to go buy this weekend.

  I have never used chicken wire. I have always used Nic Cubes from Bed Bath and Beyond a box of them costs 19.99 and then used zip ties

  My mom doesn’t like the idea of nic cubes, she finds them ugly and thinks they’re not very stable look, I know a lot of people use those here, but my mom just doesn’t like them so i have to build him a cage out of wood and some kind of wire siding, so that doesn’t really help. :/

  I used 3 boxes of the Nic Cubes on this cage, and it home for my Flemish Giant who weights 18 lbs, if thats not sturdy I don’t know what is.

  that’s nice, I would do it, but what mom says goes, [MOD EDIT] I can’t really do whatever I want. D: Plus, the plan we have is going to make it easy to clean, where I could take the shelves out and hose them off for a total cleaning each month, in addition to spot cleaning if he makes a huge mess. But yeah idk. Nothing changes moms mind, and we already bought the wood for the frame.

  As far as building plans, most people do NIC grids b/c they are relatively easy for people with limited or no building experience. Personally, I agree that they can look messy and unstable if not supported/attached correctly.
  
  If your father is willing to assist with housing, that’s great! You mentioned having floors that can be hosed off, what are the floors going to be made of? I’m not sure how necessary it will be that they’re removable. People will usually just do tiles over the top (“peel and stick” that can be cut to size), or a solid piece of linoleum cut to size. Either of those options can be wiped down easily.
  
  As far as wire, I would recommend rabbit wire, not chicken wire. Chicken wire is not strong enough to contain a determined bunny. Rabbit wire is designed to keep wild bunnies out of gardens, but in your situation it would keep your bunny in at night.
  
  For the height you have planned with multiple levels, I’d also recommend a large hinged door on the front. You want to have full access to each and every level in order to clean and to retrieve your bunny if necessary. Maybe a hinged door for you to access, and also a small hinged “bunny door” on the bottom so your bun can get in and out the rest of the time.

  If you’re worried about an NIC cage being stable don’t be. =] When I was building my bun’s everyone doubted that it would be stable but trust me it is! I ziptied it on twice on every other square. It wasn’t really truly “stable” until I slid the levels in. And the cage is even on wheels. I’ve had the cage for about three months now and it’s still sturdy as ever. And I move the cage every weekend to vacuum behind it. So trust me it’s sturdy. =]

  Sorry I didn’t know I couldn’t do that. But um, we already planned on doing the hinged doors for easy access. And we were probably going to do linoleum since Simba’s not a chewer or digger. And I didn’t know there was such thing as rabbit wire, is it sold at like Lowes or Home depot?
