Hi Everyone,
Last week I was having a problem with my BunBun pulling fur from his wife Nelli, humping her and generally tormenting her constantly. I took her to my local vet, who really offered no diagnotics besides a visual exam. Over the wknd, Bun got worse with Nell and seemed very tense. He was also spending lots of time in his box while peeing. Since he tolerates Baytril very well and has a history of bladder sludge & UTI, I decided he has a possible UTI and started Baytril. His behavior has been getting better ever since! He hasn’t gone after Nelli at all today, and they’ve been cuddling and eating greens together like normal
.
Also, I wanted to share a tip for giving meds. BunBun has always HATED meds- even the better flavored ones. Well, the only Baytril I had was gross liver flavored tablets- a big hit with rabbits as you all can imagine >.<- because the local vet has no fruit flavored meds for herbivores. So I crushed up the tablet til it was very fine power, then microwaved a little apple juice and a dab of honey until very warm. I drew 1 ml of that into the syringe & added that to melt the Baytril and mixed well. Then I added 1 ml more of cool apple juice and honey to cool the mixture down- always test it on your wrist! That way I have about 2 ml of meds to give BunBun- better than a full syringe ful! I also make up a 2nd syringe of plain apple juice & honey to "rinse" Bun's mouth out afterwards. Bun has actually started taking the syringe in his mouth and willingly drinking it! He also chins the syringe afterward so that we will know it's his- lol. This won't work with everybun, but hopefully it will help someone out!
