Hi there my rabbit sunshine wont eat any of her pellets. I just got a new bag of pellets a week ago and she was eating them fine and so is my other rabbit. I went away on vacation for 2 days. I come back and some pellets were still left in her bowl. I tossed them out and gave her new. The next day some still left in her bowl. Today I give her pellets she hasn’t even touched them. I put them in a different bowl. Nothing. She is eating her hay and veggies. Does anyone know the problem? Could it be the heat?
I would take her to the vet to get her checked, just to make sure anything isn’t off. Any kind of eating changes could be a sign of something, such as GI Stasis.
However, has your rabbit ever been picky before? My rabbit will only eat one brand of hay and pellets, from a small store locally. He won’t eat it from Pet Smart. I found out the smaller store gets fresher stuff.
She isn’t picky. It does take her all day to eat her pellets. were as my other rabbit eats them with in 3 hours. I did notice that the pellets are 2 shades of brown I am wondering could that have anything to do with it?
Sometimes the taste of pellets will change due to the hay they are made with. I would contact the company and tell them your bunnies wont eat them. My bunnies did this once when they were on Martin’s pellets. I bought another bag with a different date on it and they ate it.
I went an bought a new bag of the same brand of pellets and sunshine still isn’t eating them. I gave her veggies and she ate a little bit. She is eating some hay. She is eating a apple really fast. When do I know it is time to take her to the vet?
Hmmm…have you had her teeth checked recently?
She may just have a touch of gas or something. You could always try a dose of simethicone. It cant hurt, anyways.
Thank you. I am actually taking her to the vet today. I got up this morning and she hasn’t eatin any of her veggies or pellets. She did eat a piece of apple yesterday. To me just don’t look herself. So i will give an update on what the vet says.

If she the one who is disabled?
I just came back from the vet. They gave her some fluids put her on a probiotic and reglan. If the fluids don’t perk her up by tomorrow morning I have to take her back in the morning to get more. Thanks for the concerns and prayers. No beka she is not the disabled one.
Vibes for Sunshine – please keep us updated.
I will. also her body was going into GI Stasis. I am so glad I took her and please keep the prayers coming.
It’s good she is getting help. Make sure you read this: http://www.bio.miami.edu/hare/ileus.html
My first rabbit died of stasis, even with vet care. My rabbit now has gotten it a few times and with the help of that website, we have fought it off. The big thing for us is the belly rubs and the baby gas meds (catching it early with ANY eating changes or changes in behavior is key). Also, rabbits will go into stasis quickly if in pain, so make sure that is always managed.
My rabbit now goes into stasis each time he molts. He also did once when we went on vacation. We learned that leaving him home in his huge bedroom and having someone visit is not the way for us. He rather be living in a rabbit cage in someone’s home. I guess he gets too lonely. Just a thought.
(((healing vibes)))
Thank you very much for the input. She did eat some parsley which I am very happy about. I know its going to take her a little bit till she gets back on track and eating normal again. I am so glad I took her to the vet and that they were able to get her in today. Please keep her in your prayers.
So thankful you decided to take her to the vet ! Sending healing vibes. Keep us updated
I’ll be praying for a speedy recovery! Mine loves mint and kale when he is sick, in addition to the parsley. He is getting over stasis right now too. Poor rabbits!
How much parsley and I allowed to give her?
Is she used to eating parsley regularly? If not, then I wouldn’t overdo it. You don’t want gas exacerbating her condition.
Is she only willing to eat Parlsey? Have you tried other fragrant things like cilantro or fresh carrot tops?
I haven’t tried cilantro. She is only eating the parsley. She wont eat lettuce.
I think if she is eating parsley and has always eaten it, I would give her as much as she wants. The point is to get her eating something.
than you sarita. She has always eatin parsley I am going to try to give her some cilantro. She likes that as well.
I know that parsley is high in calcium should I be concerned about that or not?
So is kale, and my doc still encourages a lot of it it while fighting Stasis. Getting food in is getting food in. Can’t be too choosy. I would just say once buns gets better, make sure to vary the diet more. However, right now, you don’t have a lot of food choices.
There is big confusion concerning calcium and oxalic acids.
Here is the link to this article – please read it fully so you can see what the new standards concerning greens and your rabbits are:
http://www.rabbit.org/care/veggies.html
This is from the House Rabbit Society website (and I am posting a link, that I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you read):
Leafy Greens I (need to be rotated due to oxalic acid content and only 1 out of three varieties of greens a day should be from this list)
That being sad – if it were me, I would give her what she wants unlimited until she is fully back to normal.
thank you
Just to let everyone know sunshine is doing much better. She is eating lots of hay and veggies on her own. Hasn’t touched her pellets yet. not sure if she ever will. Thanks for all the help and support.
So good to hear! Hay and veggies are the most important, so that is awesome!
That’s great! I wouldn’t worry to much about the pellets as long as she’s eating her hay and veggies.
