First of all, relax. As long as you’re giving her a good diet, she’s indoors, you have a nice clean cage/pen set up for her, etc., she’s probably fine. It’s perfectly normal to be a bit paranoid about caring for a new animal; it just means that you love her.

It’s normal for a bunny to sneeze now and then, especially if they’re around something dusty. It’s only a problem if they start sneezing constantly or they have any thick discharge. If you’re really worried, you could always take her to a vet – which might be a good idea anyway if you just got her.

Yes, bunnies sneeze. If it was once or twice, not to worry. It’s like when we do it. Since you’re on the track of a good vet, you’re doing fine and she will be examined soon for a lot of things. Mention that she sneezed once, but she sounds OK so far without any discharge or repeated sneezing.

P.S. You can’t really be too protective when it comes to bunnies. When they are ill, they hide it. Often until it’s too late. So you want to watch for subtle changes, usually in a change of diet (not eating normally, or avoiding hard food one day) or in litter pan habits. If they sit in a meatloaf position and grind their teeth loudly, you have a bunny in discomfort. GI tract issues are the most common. So get to know your bunny’s habits and routines over time so you can recognize these little changes. It’s a form of being protective that is very helpful to their health.

My bunny, Sammykins, messed with me this morning by not eating her greens. I think she got tired of waiting and ate the last of her hay, filling up, so she didn’t eat breakfast normally, but I was concerned. Eventually she came out and ate her greens, but I swear she was saying “gotcha!”. I had been a bit late in delivering them.

This makes me happy that you are concerned with your bun so much. Just being a good bunny-parent. And Bunjamin sneezing freaked me out at first too. Bunjamin sneezes more than normal because his nose was bit by a liter mate so more dust gets in there. Usually he’s got his head in the hay basket when he sneezes. But you’ll also notice the sound of the sneeze is different if that makes sense. It sounds congested if they’re sick. I had my first experience hearing it yesterday, with a bun at the rescue. I would say just stay alert like are you and you’ll be okay. Oh and good luck on the vet stuff. One of my bunnies sneezes fairly often. If you don’t see discharge, she’s probably just sneezing for the same reasons humans sneeze – because she got some dust or something in her nose and needed to get it out. Nothing to worry about!
